You probably recall childhood memories of being fed traditional Chinese cough syrup Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa, or “pipagao”, especially whenever you feel a sore throat or cough coming on. While we’re used to seeing a bottle of pipagao in Asian homes, it’s not a common remedy used in Western countries. But it seems the syrup’s popularity has reached Western shores, and is even loved by none other than the Zayn Malik!

Vogue Britain recently released an ‘In The Bag’ video with Zayn Malik, where the British musician reveals his weekend bag must-haves. At first the items in his bag seemed normal enough—a teddy bear, deodorant, toothbrush, fragrance—until he whipped out an entire bottle of pipagao! Imagine our surprise seeing the familiar red and black bottle pulled out of Zayn’s everyday bag—and it’s a Fendi bag too.

Zayn goes on to express how much he loves the cough syrup, saying that it’s his “special elixir” that he takes it everywhere and is “ridiculously good for [his] vocal chords”. But what tickled online netizens even further was the fact that he referred to the iconic remedy as a “honey from China” instead of a syrup. Fans of the singer were quick to forgive that little mistake, and were simply excited that he loved their favourite cough remedy as much as they did. “If Zayn says it’s a honey, then it’s a honey!”, they chorused.
