Sofitel Singapore City Centre’s 1864 lounge is known for serving up some of the most unique themed high teas, like their ginseng-centric high tea collaboration with Sulwhasoo skincare earlier this year, but their newest high tea set really takes the cake.
1864 has just launched probably one of the most elaborate high tea sets we’ve ever seen, upping the ante in both flair and presentation. The new Midsummer Night’s Dream Afternoon Tea is inspired by the mystical Athenian forest from the iconic Shakespearean play of the same name, and features an intricate forest-inspired set that’s wheeled on a trolley straight to your table.
The main centrepiece of the set features a miniature woodland tree “tier” elegantly encased in a clear acrylic dome. The high tea items are then artfully arranged all around the tree’s “branches” in no particular order—making it almost like a treasure “hunt” while you enjoy each bite. The tree also spins around like a carousel, which is a fun little touch.
Nearly everything you see presented in the set is edible, save for the wooden tree itself and the tray it’s presented on. But everything else, from the “soil” and “pebbles” surrounding the tree, to the butterfly and ladybug embellishments and even the green “moss”—they can all be eaten.
Spice & Sea for Oberon
Dreamy Sycamore
Orb of Dew
Comté Bark Chips with Fairy Dust
Puck’s Playful Tartlet
The Magical Toadstool
Mystical Tree Moss
The sweets and savouries are also themed to fit the enchanting forest vibe: such as the mushroom-shaped Magical Toadstool, Spellbound Pebbles that resemble bird’s eggs in a nest, Comté Bark Chips with Fairy Dust made to look like tree bark sprinkled with freshly-shaved parmesan cheese as “fairy dust’, tarts that look like tree logs and other items topped with pretty edible flowers and herbs.
You also get a specially curated tea mocktail and your choice of tea or coffee to pair with the set. The high tea is priced at $138++ per set for 2 persons, which works out to $69++ per person. As the Midsummer Night’s Dream Afternoon Tea is such an elaborate affair to prepare, only 5 sets are available to order daily, and reservations are highly encouraged here.
