If you watched the hit K-drama ‘Moving’ recently, you might have noticed the main characters chowing down on tonkatsu throughout the series. The tonkatsu featured is not like your usual regular-sized tonkatsu cutlets, they’re absolutely giant, and we actually found a Korean restaurant right here in Singapore where you can try the dish for yourself!

The viral “king-sized” tonkatsu in question is served retro-style, and is found in South Korea’s Namsan area. Namsan tonkatsu eateries have since seen massive increase in sales since the K-drama aired, with customers all clamouring to try the iconic “Namsan Tonkatsu” from the drama. If you’re curious, you don’t have to travel all the way to Namsan for it, you can get it at Daejim KBBQ restaurant in Tanjong Pagar!

Daejim offers Namsan Pork Cutlet ($28) from their a la carte menu, served in the traditional style with a crispy pork cutlet doused in a sweet-sour sauce, plus a dollop of white rice, coleslaw and pickled radish. The special sauce itself is unlike the usual Japanese-style tonkatsu sauces you’re familiar with; this one is more refreshing and slightly tangy thanks to the addition of apples in the sauce.

The price point is pretty steep, but online reviews say that the dish is truly huge, and can be sufficiently shared between a group of 3 or more, especially if you’re ordering a couple of dishes at Daejim to try.
