One of the pioneers for novel croissants is local bakery La Levain, with their Croyaki (croissant + “yakitori”) and Onigiri Croissants, and now they’ve created yet another viral croissant—Smashed Croissants! This viral “flat” croissant has been making its rounds all over social media, not only for its shocking visual but also for its interesting taste that’s different from the fluffy, flaky croissant texture you’re used to having.

To achieve the signature extra crunchy and crisp texture, the Smashed Croissants are first sprinkled with sugar and flattened before baking for that sweet, caramelised exterior. They’re then dunked in various chocolate or spreads and drizzled with more toppings to finish.
