The exhibition puts an arty twist on the classic Gachapon machine, but is no less novel and exciting. Instead of dispensing miniature trinkets or toys, each play will earn you a capsule ball containing a special limited-edition artwork or collectible that’s handmade by one of the 10 participating artists for SAW 2023: literally “art that fits in your palm!

Each machine is dedicated to the works of one particular visual artist, with works from artists like @highnunchicken, @seedoubleyouuu, @sandyplayig, @hellovanlim. As each artwork and collectible is painstakingly and lovingly handmade by each of the artists, prices for a token to play the Gachapon are a little pricey—with artworks priced at an average of $50, and some ranging between $30 to $70. But if you think about it: you’re essentially purchasing one-of-a-kind works of art that are unlikely to ever be made again, which makes the art all the more worth the price tag.
