Things To Do This Weekend (11 – 13 November)

With film festivals, a Marvel exhibition and conventions to showcase two very different local scenes – street culture and artisanal ware – theres so much to look forward to this weekend.
1. Sole Superior

Sneakerheads, rejoice – Singapore’s premier sneaker and streetwear convention returns this Saturday to Zouk Singapore for the fourth year running. One of the biggest platforms that showcases the local street culture, it is held at a bigger event this year, so turnout is expected to increase. Food is available at the venue from Park Bench Deli and Nomad – The Gallant Co. & The Hungry Bazterdz, and drinks can be purchased at the Wine Bar @ Zouk. Besides sneakers, other highlights include live DJ sets by .Wav(y) and get inked for free by top tattoo artists Alfrey Tattoo and Kelvin Monster.

2. Etsy Made Local Market

3. Marvel’s Avengers Station

In this interactive exhibition, you can finally live out your dreams of becoming an Avenger. The science centre explains the science and technology behind the characters, and features original sets, props, costumes, interactive and special effects.

4. German Film Festival 2016

This is the last weekend to catch the German Film Festival, so do head on down if you have been intending to. For its 20th edition, more than 30 films are being screened, and it is the largest foreign film festivals in Singapore. Some films to look out for include the love story “Agnes”, “Farewell Berlin Wall”, “Meteor Street”, “Twilight over Burma”, “Zero Gravity: Mission in Space” and “Democracy”.

5. French Film Festival 2016

If film festivals are your thing, this month seems to be your lucky month with numerous film festivals being held. This year, a selection of close to 20 movies – including fascinating cult classics to compelling films fresh off the box office will be screened on local grounds. “There is no other country on earth that cherishes independent world cinema as much as France,” said local arthouse filmmaker Eric Khoo who is the festival’s guest of honour this year. Some of his picks include “Cowboys” (Les Cowboys), “Standing Tall” (Le tête haute), and “Hothead” (Coup de tête).

6. Botanic Gardens Movie Series: Raven the Little Rascal

In collaboration with the German Film Festival, Raven the Little Rascal will be screened at the Singapore Botanical Gardens. The film, which won the best foreign animated feature at the Sichuan TV Festival, tells of the power of friendship and courage in facing one’s endeavours. Get ready for an evening movie-picnic under the stars with this unique experience.
