We love when cafés do the retro aesthetic right, and The Rock Sugar Office (or Bing Tang Tang Shui) definitely understood the assignment. The retro-inspired space looks like something out of the 80s, and is modelled after the offices back in the day.
Dine in their nostalgic office “pantry” area filled with nostalgic biscuit tins and snacks, or at their “meeting room” with a communal table and whiteboard; or play around with the vintage props like old-school telephones, typewriters, wooden office desks and more. The glass windows are even covered with actual blinds to make you feel like you’re really in an office!
There’s plenty of hidden gems to discover, and every little detail is on point: like the old cassette tapes, cassette players, vintage magazines, retro lamps, leather office chairs and even brick phones!
The café specialises in mostly elevated traditional Chinese-style desserts, all made with rock sugar (hence the name), and you can expect pretty treats like the Tang Yuan ($12.50) that’s served atop shaved ice, the refreshing Honeydew & Watermelon Sago ($8.80), Cheng Teng ($8.80), nourishing Bird’s Nest Soup ($29.90) and more.
There’s also aesthetic flower tea drinks like the Flight of Three ($9.80) featuring mini glasses of different blooming floral teas. For snacks and savoury food items, there’s local favourites like Kueh Pie Tee ($6.80), Radish Cake ($6.80), Chee Cheong Fun ($5.50) and Ikan Satay ($2.50), just to name a few. The Rock Sugar Office opens till 1.30am on most days, great for a late night snack or sweet treat!
