Have you ever felt jealous stepping into those fancy Starbucks outlets in Taiwan and Japan that have big airy rooms with gorgeous lighting and minimalist furnishing that provide the perfect photo opportunities? Well, here’s some good news for you! The new Starbucks at Katong Square has brought that precise sense of aesthetics right here to our doorstep.
Set in a heritage building with all-white walls and rows of grilled windows, the new store almost straight right out of a period movie. Don’t you just want to spread out a blanket on that patch of grass and bask in the sun with a picnic spread?
Stepping into the store provides an immediate sense of comfort with the sight of playfully painted walls and carefully curated wall decorations that serve as a nod to the building’s Peranakan heritage.
The playful use of colours in the store add a touch of whimsicality that stands out from the usual dark tones employed by local Starbucks outlets. Art pieces decorating the walls are done by local contemporary visual artist Danielle Tay to pay homage to the building’s rich heritage.
Light-coloured modern furniture complements the style of the shop by adding a touch of homeliness. There are even bigger tables for those who’d like more space to get some work done.
With its vintage vibes, this new Starbucks reminds us of the Rochester outlet that is similarly set in a colonial building. But with a much bigger space and an airy and cheerful environment, we’d say this one definitely wins.
