There’s a new brunch spot in the heart of town, right within ION Orchard itself! Taking over the same space that was previously occupied by the famed Le Matin is The Assembly Ground, a popular homegrown café that also has another outlet at Cineleisure Orchard!
Unlike their original Cineleisure outlet, the new ION branch is much more refined and sophisticated, with an elevated (but still casual) dining experience. Nothing much has changed about the space, with most of the original decor still intact—making that elegant. “glasshouse”-esque vibe that’s perfect for a leisurely brunch or afternoon tea affair.
The newly-revamped menu features more upscale options that are inspired by the chef’s travels through Europe and America, and you’ll see nods to these culinary landscapes throughout the dishes. Some highlights from the new menu include Chargrilled Steak Toast ($22), Spicy Sea Urchin Dip ($17), Crispy Shepherd’s Pie ($22), Whipped Cod Roe ($20), Mexican Pork Stew ($30) and more.

For sharing, we enjoyed the umami-laden Spicy Urchin Dip ($17) that came served with a bowl of seaweed fries. If you’re looking for a “healthier” snack option, there’s always the French Onion Dip ($16) that comes with an assortment of fresh vegetable crudités that you can use to dip into.

Brunch goers who love a good avo toast will definitely enjoy the Charred Cabbage ($22), an open-faced toast piled high with perfectly ripe avocados, charred crunchy purple cabbage and hard-boiled egg. Seafood lovers can go for the Baby Cuttlefish Spaghetti ($26): a spin on the aglio olio with a good amount of spice and generous servings of fresh cuttlefish.
Finish off your meal with a sweet treat or entremet from the display (from $9), courtesy of LUNA Patisserie, with pretty options like LUNA 2.0, Pistachio Hazelnut, Lychee Rose, Honey Yoghurt Walnut and more.
