SINGAPORE’S FIRST LIVE SEAFOOD MARKET HOTPOT: PICK YOUR OWN CRABS, ABALONE, LOBSTERS, PRAWNS & MORE!

You’ve probably never experienced hotpot like this: with seafood so fresh that it’s still alive and moving! Blue Bay Seafood Hotpot is a new live seafood hotpot restaurant in Singapore, and it’s also the first-ever to offer a unique live seafood market-style hotpot concept.

You get to pick out your favourite hotpot ingredients from a selection of over 100 items, all displayed in individual portions like a seafood market. All you have to do is grab a tray and make your way along the various display sections, picking out whatever you want directly from the chiller.

What makes Blue Bay Seafood different from other self-serve hotpot joints is that most of their seafood items are live, and we do mean live. Some of the seafood are so fresh from the tank that they’re still moving and jumping around in the display, so you might want to watch your hands as you pick your items.

There’s over 20 different seafood options displayed and also in the live seafood tanks. There’s more premium seafood in tanks like King Crab ($150/kg), Lobster ($10/100g), Dragonfish ($6/100g); and other seafood options from the display from $4.76 per plate, including jumbo scallops, freshly shucked oysters, flower crabs, mud crabs, pipi shrimp, black tiger prawns, whole abalone, white clams, razor clams, bamboo clams, octopus, squid and many more.

All the items are portioned in individual plates and priced according to plate colour starting from as low as $3.40. Items like vegetables, mushroom, staples and tofu/fish cakes are priced between $3.40 to $4.76; standard meats, handmade meat/fish pastes, selected seafood are priced at $6.80; while more premium meats and seafood are priced from $8.84 onwards. Prices for each coloured plate are as follows:

Green – $3.40

Yellow – $4.76

Red – $6.80

Silver – $8.84

Gold – $14.96

There’s 15 soup options to choose from, each priced at $6, and like how each person gets their own individual soup pot. Some unique soup options include Butter Spicy Soup Base, Fermented Rice Vinegar Soup, Satay Flavour Soup, Healthy Millet Soup and more. Add on $2 to enjoy unlimited condiments and sauces from the DIY station.

Blue Bay Seafood’s hotpot experience is definitely one-of-a-kind, and if you love fresh ingredients, it really doesn’t get any fresher than this. However, if you’re a little squeamish about eating live things, this dining experience might not be for you—some of the seafood items (like the pipi shrimp, whole abalone and bamboo clams) were still moving even just before we dropped them into the boiling soup. While not the most affordable hotpot experience there is, we liked the self-serve market-style concept where we didn’t have to wait for items to be served to the table; and we think Blue Bay is worth a try, especially for their fresh ingredients and wide variety of items available.
