Nothing beats making (and eating) your very own pasta by hand, and no one understands this fact better than the folks at The Sundowner! The Sundowner is a one-of-a-kind Nature Experience Centre offering various rooftop experiences, workshops, farm encounters and more—perfect for all you nature lovers out there!
The Sundowner offers various F&B experiences, one of them being a Pasta By Hand workshop where you get to try your hand at making and cooking your own pasta lunch/dinner from scratch. Stepping into The Sundowner’s rooftop feels like you’re being transported to a place outside of Singapore, the rooftop area slash garden is decorated immaculately, with lush greenery, a little stepping stone pond, a swing and a beautiful tentage area where you’ll be making the pasta!
The pasta-making workshop is a fully hands-on affair, and you’ll be involved every step of the way: from measuring the flour, making the dough, kneading out the dough (for 10 minutes straight, no less), rolling out the pasta, prepping the ingredients and cooking! You’ll even get to pick your own herbs from the herb garden to use in your pasta—very farm-to-table indeed. Each workshop is 3-hours long, and includes time for making and enjoying the pasta.
No need to worry about not being a good enough cook: the workshop is fully guided and the hosts will be there to help you every step of the way. Plus the pasta recipe is simplified and they will definitely explain the measurements and steps so you can easily replicate the recipe at home!
While waiting for the pasta dough to rest (30 minutes), you’ll be taken on a tour of the rooftop, where you get to see all the various herbs and fruit trees planted in the garden (we even got to taste some of the ripe berries from their mulberry bush!), and even see the in-house apiary (remember to tread carefully and quietly around the bees so you won’t disturb them!). There will also be ample time for you to take tons of pictures of and with the scenery: and trust us, there are plenty of IG-worthy moments to capture while you’re there.
As for the menu, it differs every time and is specially curated for each group that comes for the workshop. Prior to your visit, the Sundowner folks will drop you a message enquiring about any allergies or dietary restrictions in order to better craft the pasta menu. On our visit, we made a Squid Ink Tagliatelle Tomato Grancho; ie. squid ink pasta with crab meat in tomato sauce. To our surprise, the finished product was absolutely delicious, especially since we made everything ourselves, with the taste and texture of handmade pasta ruining store bought boxed pasta for us forever.
Each person also gets a glass of wine to accompany the pasta. We strongly recommend you to come for dinner (4pm-7pm), because that’s when you get to witness the sunset (if you’re lucky) while you dine, making the entire experience truly stunning. Prices for the Pasta By Hand workshop are as follows:
- $400 for 2 pax (private session)
- $110 per adult; $80 per child (join-in sessions; minimum 4 pax, maximum 8 pax)
Alternatively, if you’re a group of more than 2 pax, it’s $400 + additional $80 per pax. Private sessions can be arranged for any day, subject to availability; while join-in sessions happen every Friday-Sunday, 10am-1pm.
While prices for The Sundowner’s Pasta By Hand workshop might be a little steep, you are paying for a truly unforgettable experience: from the ambience, vibe, food, company and views, every aspect was amazing and spot-on. The Sundowner would make for a perfectly romantic and intimate date idea or for special occasions and group bonding activities.
