SCENIC JAPANESE CAFÉ WITH WATERFRONT VIEWS HAS EDIBLE “DISHWASH SPONGE” CAKES, PREMIUM ONIGIRI SETS WITH UNI & STRETCHY DIY MOCHI!

Dessert lovers might be familiar with MADLYGOOD, a popular dessert and brunch café in Clementi. If you’re a fan of their sweet treats, they’ve just opened a second outlet at Clarke Quay overlooking the river, so you get scenic views of the waterfront as you dine!

The new menu at MADLYGOOD Japanese Café features more Japanese-centric items, including premium onigiri sets, plus even more unique and unconventional dessert offerings. For a hearty and filling meal, we recommend getting one of their Onigiri Sets or Rice Plates (from $21) that comes with an assortment of items plus a seasonal mini fruit bowl to complete the meal.

A5 Wagyu Hamburg Onigiri Set, $38

Premium A5 Wagyu Onigiri Set, $68

Tsukune, $13

We tried some of their  premium set options like the A5 Wagyu Hamburg Onigiri Set ($38), which comes with a thick and juicy A5 Wagyu Hamburg that’s topped with a rich egg yolk. The set also comes with an onigiri, chuka wakame, potato salad, picked vegetables and lotus root chips. The hamburg patty itself was ultra chunky, well seasoned and flavourful, and the oozy yolk makes each bite extra satisfying. If you’re looking to splurge a little more, their Premium A5 Wagyu Onigiri Set ($68) is also another option, that comes with A5 wagyu steak instead, plus ikura and even uni. At the price point, this is definitely not for an average lunch affair: the wagyu steak is marbled and well cooked to a medium rare, and we recommend digging into this while it’s still hot to enjoy the steak at maximum tenderness. Meat lovers can also opt for their Tsukune ($13), with chunky minced chicken and vegetable skewers dunked in an umami onsen egg sauce.

Dish Wash Cheese Cake, $12

Organic Fruit Ice Tea. $7

Earl Grey Ice Mango Tea, $7

For dessert, they’ve got plenty of novel options, like the viral cake shaped just like an actual dishwashing sponge! The Dish Wash Cheese Cake ($12) is also topped with milk foam made to look like soap suds, and this is probably the only place in Singapore where you can get this cake for now. While visually striking to look at and for the ‘gram, we felt that taste-wise it was less like the dense cheesecakes we’re used to, and it’s much more spongy in texture. The matcha flavour of the cake could also be more pronounced.

Milky Mochi, $8

Shingen Mochi, $12

Their mochi desserts are also worth a try: like the Milky Mochi ($8), a DIY set served with stretchy mochi, kinako powder, adzuki beans and brown sugar syrup. You can pull apart the stretchy mochi while it’s still warm and mix them up however you like! The Shingen Mochi ($12) is also another option for mochi fans; also known as “raindrop cakes”, the dessert features crystal-clear, jiggly mochi jelly orbs that you can top with brown sugar syrup for some sweetness and flavour. This one’s much lighter and more refreshing compared to the usual rice mochi.

MADLYGOOD Japanese Café is tucked away in Clarke Quay Central and its slightly hidden location makes it a great spot if you’re looking for a quieter place to relax other than the busy cafés in town. Their menu is also pretty extensive, with lots of other Japanese fusion options like curry rice, pasta, cartoon animal buns, French toasts, waffles, burgers, sandos, Western-style mains and more—and we’ll definitely be back to try some of their other menu items.
