Talk about a blast from the past: a new retro 80s-inspired “wet market” kopitiam has just opened in Singapore! Tan Xiang Cai Shi is a nostalgic food court opened by celebrity and F&B entrepreneur, Ben Yeo, featuring an old-school hawker slash wet market vibe that feels like you’ve stepped right back into the 80s!

The kopitiam sits some 400 people in all, with charming decor resembling actual kampong houses from the past: with rustic wooden stalls, custom-made bright orange tales, “worn” signboards and vintage decor pieces; plus dedicated photo spots modelled after old magazine/newsstands, a rattan furniture store and more!

There’s even a “kacang puteh stall” where you can buy some of your favourite nostalgic childhood snacks, and help yourself to the complimentary treats, nuts and candies from the self-serve bar! For families with kids, you can keep them entertained with the free kiddie rides available too!

There will be a total of 7 “hawker” stalls in operation at the kopitiam, offering food like classic tze char and charcoal fish head steamboat using seafood from the live seafood tanks; as well as more eats like halal padang food, ban mian and roast meats. You can even try your hand at brewing and pulling your own kopi just like the hawker uncles and aunties with their DIY coffee sets!
