The K-craze is sweeping our shores, with new Korean joints sprouting up all over the island—from the famed BHC Chicken, robot-run Robert Chicken, and even a lifestyle store with an entire Ramyeon Library. We just can’t get enough of all things Korean. If you’re a fan of Korean street food, you’re going to want to try this new retro-inspired snack joint!
Coming to you straight from the streets of Korea is Ssada Gimbap: a popular home-style snack shop loved for their delicious and unique gimbap (rice rolls). Singapore’s version of Ssada Gimbap has been tweaked slightly to fit the local palate, so you’ll find flavours that are more familiar.
Most notable items on the menu include a special Mala Pork Gimbap ($11), a novel flavour that we’ve yet to come across in Singapore. Other interesting gimbap flavours include Tonkatsu ($11), Salad ($9), Cheese ($9), and even a Nude ($9) version that’s made without the usual seaweed on the outside!
The store has a casual, retro-inspired vibe, and you’ll see an actual Korean ajumma (auntie) rolling gimbap at the counter, with tubs of ingredients laid out before her. Ssada’s other chefs are also from Korea, with over 30 years of experience making Korean street food—quite the authentic bunsik (snack store) experience.
If you’re not in the mood for gimbap, Ssada also as plenty of other comforting Korean fare to offer: Kimchi Fried Rice ($12), Curry Tonkatsu Rice ($14), Beef Bibimbap ($13), Tteokbokki ($12), Udon ($8), Soybean Paste Stew ($13), Fried Squid Ring ($1) and many more!
