It’s no secret that the Japanese are pretty open to exploring more, ahem, unconventional themes when it comes to art—but this artist takes a more humorous spin on genitalia-themed artwork, with a fun and playful exhibition all about (you guessed it) the human penis.
Titled Chin-Chin (the Japanese word for penis), this eye-catching exhibition features everything penis-related: from giant 2-metre tall dick installations, prints, hanging and wall fixtures, merchandise and more. What’s unique about this exhibition is that while it’s entirely centred around the male genital, it’s far from being overtly crude or vulgar, rather it’s more quirky and whimsical, bursting with colours and vibrant prints.
Just take a look at this giant furry and colourful penis installation—you can even sit or pose on it for some frisky photo ops! There are also smaller penis artworks hanging from the ceilings, made from felt material in various bold prints like hearts, check, clouds, cow, leopard, camo and more. There are also some penis-shaped merchandise you can purchase, from cute prints to tiny pins in various designs.
The exhibition is by Japanese artist Yui Ozaki, who aims to subvert the notion that human genitalia should be something that we shy away from, or keep hidden. Instead, she challenges the notion that the body can only be sexualised, presenting gender symbols in a playful manner instead. The Chin-Chin exhibition is held at 7879 Gallery and Clayworks, and is free to enter for the public.
