This café has an actual subway hidden within?! Café Gyoen is a newly-opened Japanese café in Serangoon Gardens with a unique “train cabin” feature that’s perfect for photo ops! No need to travel all the way to Japan for those iconic railway vibes!

The café itself is pretty spacious, with a clean colour palette and minimalist Japanese-inspired decor. You’ll find the “train cabin” tucked away on the way to the washroom: with a replica of the sliding train doors, reflective windows (perfect for selfies!) and even realistic signages.

The café specialises in Japanese fare (of course), especially classic Teishoku (from $15): a traditional Japanese set meal complete with meat, onigiri, mentaiko tamagoyaki, lobster salad, pickles and miso soup. Options include Katsu Pork ($21), Softshell Crab ($24) or Wagyu Tataki ($29), among others. They’ve also got other main options like maki rolls (from $17.90), noodles (from $11.90), donburi (from $14.90) and curry rice (from $16.90).

They even have various snacks like Ika Karaage ($14.90), Crispy Takoyaki ($9.90), Okonomiyaki Fries ($15), Cold Marinated Scallops ($5.90) and more. Finish with some pastries, or waffles and gelato for dessert and specialty matcha/coffee drinks too.
