Hotpot on the go? Yes, you can: and we found a new spot in Orchard where you can get DIY hotpot cups from just $6.90, and they’re cooked to order!
POP THAI is a new takeaway kiosk in Wisma Atria, and they’ve got Thai-style mini hotpot-in-a-cup where you can customise your soup base and ingredients, and have your hotpot on the go! The most value-for-money option for their build-your-own hotpot is their Mini Hotpot Value Meal ($6.90) where you get to select your soup base and 4 ingredients, plus complimentary instant noodles.
DIY Mini Hotpot (from $6.90)
They’ve got over 15 different ingredients you can pick from, including mini skewers, staples and veggies. Some options for your hotpot cup include classic hotpot favourites like cheese tteokbokki, cheese sausage, sliced potato, ring roll, crabstick, lotus root, quail eggs, udon and more. For now, they’ve got 2 homemade soup bases available: Tom Yum or Mala Milk—both of which are spicy. Our pick for soups is definitely the Tom Yum, that’s tangy and flavourful, albeit a little oily.
You can also DIY your own hotpot cup from scratch, with ingredients starting from just 80 cents each. What we liked about the hotpot experience at POP THAI is that the ingredients in each cup are cooked to order, so they’re not overcooked when it gets to you.
Fishball, $3; Cheese Tteokbokki, $3.20
If you’re not looking to commit to a whole hotpot cup, you can also get mini snack cups that are easier to carry around. They’ve got 2 options for the snack cups: Cheese Tteokbokki ($3.20) or Fishball ($3), with 6 pieces each, and you also get to pick your choice of soup.
Roasted Sugar, $4.50
Tiramisu, $5.50
Lotus Biscoff, $5.20
For dessert, they’ve got a selection of house-made Mochi Waffles (from $4.20) in unique flavours like Roasted Sugar ($4.50), Taro ($5.10), Salted Egg & Fresh Cream ($5.80), Tiramisu ($5.50) and more. We enjoyed the nutty sweetness of the Lotus Biscoff ($5.20), and the waffle had a nice chew to it thanks to the mochi batter—but we would much rather opt for their hotpot cups instead.
While POP THAI’s menu is probably not the most mind-blowing, their hotpot soup does hit the spot if you’re a spice lover, and is still a good option if you’re looking for a quick hotpot fix that’s convenient to eat on the go.
