LARGEST GYUKATSU KYOTO KATSUGYU CHAIN FROM JAPAN OPENS IN SINGAPORE!

Gyukatsu lovers, this is the moment you’ve been waiting for: the highly-anticipated Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu from Japan is finally opening here in Singapore! The famous gyukatsu chain is the largest in Japan, with over 70 outlets globally and this marks their first-ever debut in Singapore.

The Singapore outpost is located at Raffles City, and the chain brings their same signature menu of premium breaded and deep-fried beef cutlets, and you get to cook them to your liking using individual hotplate grills provided at your table. Katsu sets at Gyukatsu start from a friendly $25 each, and they come with an assortment of various dipping sauces, onsen egg, Kyoto-style curry, miso soup, rice and cabbage salad. For big eaters, you can also enjoy unlimited rice and cabbage salad with every set order.

They’ve got a wide range of different sets available in various premium cuts like sirloin, chuck flap tail, tenderloin, tongue and Miyazaki A5 wagyu. But if you can’t decide on just one beef cut, you can opt for half-half katsu sets instead, where you get to try 2 different cuts of beef in one. All their meats are served medium rare, and you can use the solo hotplate to grill the meat further to your preferred doneness. We recommend only grilling for a few seconds on each side, just lightly searing the surface for the best taste!

Sirloin and Tenderloin GYUKATSU ZEN ($29)

Sirloin and Beef Tongue GYUKATSU ZEN ($32)

Our top pick is the Sirloin and Tenderloin GYUKATSU ZEN ($29), with marbled cuts of sirloin alongside thicker and leaner tenderloin. Out of the two beef cuts, we preferred the sirloin for its tenderness and well-marbled texture. While the tenderloin is considered more premium, we felt it was slightly too chewy for our liking as it’s not as marbled as the sirloin, though still very beefy and flavourful. For beef tongue lovers, you can try the Sirloin and Beef Tongue GYUKATSU ZEN ($32) instead. The beef tongue was pretty tender and not overly tough, with no funky smell either.

Miyazaki A5 Sirloin (add on, +$25)

Seafood Katsu Zen ($32)

For those looking to splurge a little more, the A5 Miyazaki Sirloin GYUKATSU ZEN ($55) is worth the extra penny, starring beautifully marbled and melt-in-your-mouth A5 wagyu slices. Since the wagyu overcooks easily, we don’t think it’s necessary to grill them again on the hotplate. You can also enjoy the A5 wagyu as an add-on by itself for an extra $25 per serving. Even if beef isn’t your cup of tea, Gyukatsu has assorted vegetable and seafood sets available too. The Seafood Katsu Zen ($32) contains salmon, scallops and jumbo ebi, and the juicy-sweet scallops were our favourite.

If you’re a beef and katsu lover, Gyukatsu is definitely the place to be; and with prices starting from $25 per set, plus free flow rice and salad—we’d say they’re still pretty affordable, even for a weekday lunch treat. Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu Singapore opens from 7th September 2024.
