HIDDEN VINTAGE-INSPIRED JAPANESE BBQ SPOT HAS A5 WAGYU, HOKKAIDO PORK BELLY, HYOGO OYSTERS FROM JUST $2.80!

Vibes, quality and an affordable price point—the newly reopened Nennen Contemporary BBQ checks all the boxes. Nennen is a cosy BBQ spot hidden in the Serangoon area serving up quality cuts of meat and fresh seafood from a pocket-friendly price of just $2.80!

The restaurant itself boasts a nostalgic vintage-inspired ambience, with rich brown leather chairs, moody lighting, and hues of red and green. You’ll also find various posters depicting their menu and drink items, as well as artworks and calligraphy works decorating the walls. There are also vintage graphics and print-outs plastered all over the glass door—reminiscent of the decor style of old-school Japanese izakayas.

As for the food, you can expect an extensive menu ranging from premium cuts of meat, fresh seafood, vegetables, side dishes, alongside assorted alcoholic drinks to boot. Highlights from the meat selection include quality cuts like Japanese A4 Wagyu Chuck Roll ($28.80), A5 Wagyu Karubi ($26.80), AUS Meltique Ribeye ($23.80), NZ Beef Salted Tongue ($7.80), Hokkaido Snow Pork Belly ($9.80), Kurobuta Pork Collar ($5.80) and more.

Seafood lovers can also look forward to fresh Hyogo Oysters (from $11.80), Salmon Sashimi ($11.80), Hamachi Kama ($9.80), Alaskan Black Cod ($28.80), Squid with Miso ($4.80), Tiger Prawns ($5.80) and Salmon Skin ($4.80), just to name a couple. It’s also useful to note that the cooking pans used at Nennen are smaller than usual, just slightly bigger than two palm sizes. We’re told this is an intentional choice by the owners; and it’s so you won’t be able to cook as much at one go, thus preventing overcooking the meats so you can enjoy them the way they’re meant to taste. If you’re dining with a large group, you might also want to request for an additional cooking pan to minimise waiting time.

If BBQ is not your style, you can also order mains and sides like Oxtail Braised in Guinness ($19.80), Slow-cooked Beef Cheek Soup ($15.80), Tori Nanban ($8.80), Pitan Tofu ($4.80), Chicken Roulade ($5.80) or Slow-braised Pork Belly ($8.80), among others. You can also help yourself to free flow sauces from the DIY sauce station.
