Glaze it yourself cosmic cakes – a new dessert experience by Boufe Boutique Cafe

Being no newbie to the Singapore café scene, Boufe Boutique Café has been around since early 2015. Known for their minimalistic aesthetics and comfy ambience, they have also since made a name for themselves on Instagram with their Mini Unicorn Cake and Famous Milky Way Cake. (Psstt, you can get free cake on your birthday week as well! )

Introducing Creating Cosmos ($12.90), a new concept where you can design your own cake by pouring the prepared multi-coloured glaze over the white chocolate yoghurt mousse base before eating it, where we were the given a chance to try our hand at decorating. The glaze is first constructed by layering the glaze of different colours; white, pink, light blue and dark blue, in a mini beaker and is then served alongside a white cylindrical-shaped cake base atop a grill placed on top of a bowl of dry ice, perfect for your Insta-story feeds. Pour quickly to prevent the glaze from drying up!

Tip: Pour the glaze in a zig-zag motion across the cake to create a perfectly uniformed design. More importantly, do not be afraid about messing up and just go for it!
Aside from the thrill and fun of being able to decorate your own cake, the calamansi jelly sandwiched inside gives a refreshing balance to the yoghurt mousse, making it light on the palette and perfect for sharing. It is gaining popularity fast so do make your reservation a day before to avoid disappointment.

Order drinks to accompany your cakes and balance out your entire palette with these Instagram-worthy drinks such as Twilight ($7), an iced midnight-blue butterfly pea flower tea that changes colour from blue to bright purple upon the adding a shot of honey and lime. As the butterfly pea flower tea does not have a strong lingering tea taste, the lime adds a slight tinge of citrus aftertaste, making it certainly rejuvenating.

Next is Dawn To Dusk ($7), a 3-layered combination of chamomile tea, lavender and a drop of edible silver dust at the bottom of the drink. The coloured layers fade top down from blue, yellow and purple, to a light blue mixture and edible silver dust amidst the purple layer at the base. Be sure to constantly stir it before drinking it as the bottom layer tends to be on the sweet side.

The most unique glass among the bunch has got to be the Black Lemonade ($5.50), which as the name describes it, it is a charcoal powder with lemonade that is infused with cucumber and freshly squeezed lemon. One thing constant amongst the 3 drinks is that they are all very light in flavor and would be perfect to accompany the sweetness of the cakes.

Aside from their decadent Insta-worthy cakes, Boufe also offers a large array of mains affordably priced between $10 to $20. The Brioche French Toast ($11) was served with four pieces of fluffy goodness nicely laid out atop a bed of almond crumble with some fresh berries, cream chantilly and maple syrup on the side. Though slightly on the sweet side, the almond crumble added texture to the toast and balance out the sweetness of the maple syrup and toast itself.

If you are a meat lover, the Steaks Are High ($20) would be the ideal choice for you with two succulent pieces of Australian oyster blade beef staked on top of two hash browns and then topped with freshly fried homemade onion rings. The beef was perfectly marinated and cooked to medium rare. The spices and seasoning were left dancing on our tongues after each bite.

No doubt our Shout team’s overall favourite has got to be the Truffle Mushroom Pasta ($14). From the moment the pasta was tossed up, the fragrant truffle aroma hit us and one bite was all it took to keep us coming back for more. Each bite was highly addictive and delightful to our taste buds and the underlying truffle scent and abundant of mushrooms prevent the dish from becoming too rich.
