You’ve probably seen the viral “ombré” matcha chocolate bars from Japan on your social media feeds; and if you’re a matcha lover we found a place in Singapore where you can find it! KŌN-KŌN MATCHĀ is a specialty matcha store in Singapore with all kinds of matcha products: from various grades of matcha powder, to matcha-infused sweets and even more unique products like matcha candles.
One of KŌN-KŌN’s more novel matcha treats is the Matchā Chokorēto, a matcha chocolate sampling box with 6 different flavours in varying matcha intensities. The chocolate is arranged from lightest to darkest shade (from subtle to the most intense matcha), just like a matcha “rainbow”!
There’s 5 different grades of matcha in the box: starting with the least intense Grade E, to the most intense and bright green Grade A. The box also includes a Premium Hojicha chocolate flavour, and you get two ~10cm bars of each flavour, which makes 12 chocolate bars in all. If you’re a matcha beginner, the Grade E and D matcha chocolate bars are a good place to start, as they’re much sweeter with a subtle hint of matcha. Serious matcha lovers can go straight to the Grade A bars for the strongest matcha flavour, though matcha purists might still find them to be a little too sweet.
Surprisingly, our personal favourite from the set was not the matcha flavours, but actually the Premium Hojicha flavour, with a rich nuttiness and roasted aroma. The chocolate is made fresh to order with natural ingredients and no preservatives, so you’re advised to consume them as soon as you can.
