Singapore’s current sweater weather calls for a bubbling pot of steamboat to chase the chills away, but instead of going for your regular hotpot, here’s a new hotpot spot for you to try an unconventional and slightly more adventurous hotpot experience! Izakaya Torikin offers the very first Matcha Shabu Shabu in Singapore; yes, you heard that right—matcha as a hotpot broth actually works!

This iconic dish from Fukuoka is sure to satisfy matcha lovers: with a soup base made from bonito and rich matcha sauce, plus a housemade matcha and sesame dipping sauce for extra earthiness and umami. The Kagoshima Kurobuta Matcha Shabu Shabu set is priced at $58 per person, and comes with a platter of freshly-sliced Kagoshima Kurobuta and assorted vegetables. If you’re going all out, feel free to add a plate of melt-in-your-mouth wagyu to your meal! Note that the Matcha Shabu Shabu is only available from 6pm onwards.
End off your hotpot meal with a comforting bowl of matchazuke (rice with broth) or udon! Izakaya Torikin is a newly rebranded concept from what used to be famous matcha specialty cafe from Japan, Cafe Hachi. Aside from the more novel matcha shabu shabu, Izakaya Torikin also offers regular specialty hotpot sets, sashimi, char-grilled items, fried items, matcha desserts and more.
