For fans of the beloved Japanese character, you’ll soon be able to relive the many memories you’ve had with Doraemon, and even make new ones at the brand new Doraemon Exhibition happening at National Museum Singapore! The Doraemon Exhibition has made 9 stops in various cities in Japan, and Singapore marks the exhibition’s 10th stop and very first international stop outside of Japan! The exhibition will feature contemporary artworks in various mediums, from paintings, sculptures, graphics, short films, installations and more; plus even some specially commissioned pieces from our very own Singaporean artists!

The Doraemon Exhibition showcases reimagined artworks, as artists portray their own personal perspective of Doraemon and what the iconic character means to them. Highlights from the exhibition include a massive artwork by the iconic Takeshi Murakami, put together with acrylic and countless platinum leaf “stickers” of Doraemon and friends—all in Murakami’s signature bold style and with the classic Murakami Flower all around.

The fluffy-looking structure is constructed with over 10,000 bits and bobs like charms, trinkets, beads, embellishments and more, all sourced from markets from all over the world!

There is also a colossal painting done entirely on animal hide, with an inclusion of actual fur to depict Doraemon’s 4D Pocket! Each artwork is one-of-a-kind, and you’ll definitely enjoy exploring each and every single one.

Doraemon is most known for its animated series and movies, but OG fans of the character will know that Doraemon has its roots in manga; so there’s an entire exhibition wing dedicated to Doraemon manga where you can browse some original black and white as well as coloured drawings of the manga. You’ll also get to see some original sketches done by the late Mr Fujiko F Fujio himself; and snap photos at a replica of Mr Fujiko’s desk—where he used to research and sketch Doraemon manga!

After having your fill and feasting your eyes on all the Doraemon artworks and installations, stop by the Doraemon Café by Toraya Confectionery for some Doraemon-themed dorayaki—Doraemon’s favourite snack! Visitors to the café can savour some red bean-filled Dorayaki ($6.90), all freshly made on-site! There will also be a retail store where you can shop exclusive Doraemon merchandise like cups, mugs, t-shirts, tote bags, postcards, stationery and more! Tickets to The Doraemon Exhibition are priced at $30 and can be purchased here.
