Streetwear and street art enthusiasts are no stranger to the name Shepard Fairey, famed contemporary artist and founder of OBEY Clothing. For fans of his work, you’ll be stoked to know that he’ll be holding his very first solo exhibition right here in Singapore this September 2023!

Shepard Fairey’s distinct style features a seamless blend of visually stimulating motifs, text, images, geometric elements and collages. Many of his works also reference various socio-political issues or narratives. Even if you’re not familiar with Fairey’s artworks, you’ve probably seen one of his most iconic artworks, the Barack Obama “Hope” poster that was widely used in Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign.

From 15th September till 15th October, Fairey will be bringing “The Future is Unwritten” exhibition to Opera Gallery; featuring an ensemble of mixed-media works, paintings on canvas, creations on paper, modular art installations, wood/metal prints, original illustrations, stencils and more. The exhibition hopes to allow viewers to ponder upon complex global issues faced today, and to consider hope and action over nihilism.

Fairey himself will also be in town to paint a monumental large-scale mural along 8 Craig Road. This will be his first ever mural painted in Southeast Asia. There will also be an extended exhibition at ION Art Gallery from 15th September 2023 till 3rd October 2023 titled “Evolution: The Future is Unwritten”, featuring sustainable installations and zero-waste fashion showcases. Entrance to the exhibition is free for the public.
