Malaysia is famed for their many popular coffee chains, and one such coffee chain is making its way to Singapore for the first time ever for a limited-time pop-up! The coffee chain is none other than the cult-favourite Choon Kee Hainanese Coffee, a brand with nearly 70 years of history, and boasting snaking queues even in Malaysia.
But starting from 23rd August 2024, you’ll be able to sample some of Choon Kee’s iconic kopi and teh offerings for a limited time only at their pop-up café in collaboration with Great Nanyang. The Great Nanyang x Choon Kee Pop-Up will only be in Singapore for 11 days, so to make the queuing worth your while, these are our top picks from the menu that you should get.
Barley Kopi Teh ($6.80)

Choon Kee is best known for their signature Barley series, so of course we had to try them out for ourselves. We’re told that the Barley drinks feature Choon Kee’s own homemade barley that’s infused with freshly-pulled kopi or teh. There are 3 variations you can try: Barley Kopi Teh ($6.80), Barley Kopi Kaw ($5.80) or Barley Teh Superb ($5.80). But if we had to pick just one, we’d say go for the Barley Kopi Teh, because you get the best of both worlds; the drink is like the classic yuan yang, and you get a subtle hint of nuttiness from the barley with each sip.
Haikou Breeze ($6.80)
Another unique drink option is the Haikou Breeze ($6.80), which is inspired by the nostalgic Himalayan Salt Candy, combining a lemon mojito with actual sea salt, yakult and a dash of Sprite. The drink is super refreshing and great for the summer, and actually tastes nearly identical to the cult-favourite candy itself, just in liquid form.
Hainanese Tea ($5.80); KTM ($6.80)
If you’re a fan of Milo, definitely try their KTM ($6.80), a blend of kopi, teh and Milo, which altogether tastes like a really robust cup of coffee-infused iced chocolate milk—very satisfying for chocolate lovers.
