Culture Cartel, Asia’s first all-encompassing street culture convention, returns this year from 6 to 8 Dec 2019 at the F1 Pit Building. This second edition promised to be bigger and better, and they didn’t disappoint. Not sure if you should spend money to attend this festival? We got a little sneak peek of Culture Cartel; here’s what to expect.
This year’s edition spans more than 15,000 sq. ft across three floors. While it might get crowded, you don’t have to worry about squeezing and getting all sweaty as the location is fully air conditioned and extremely spacious.
Sneakerheads are in for a treat as not only are there plenty of kicks to purchase, Limited Edt and Stadium Goods have come together to present Chronicles of Flight — the largest collection of Nike Air Jordans in Southeast Asia.
They include highly-coveted pairs of shoes in the scene, including the Air Jordan 1 High OG and Air Jordan 1 Retro High.
Or if you want to stand out from the crowd, customised sneakers are available too.
And they are done on site so you can ensure they are 100% authentic. Materials are available too, so feel free to get creative!
There’s also a Sneaker Gala by Limited Edt, where you can, well, check out the latest limited edition shoes by the brand and fill in your particulars for the shoes you want. Check out the dinner table setting: proof that sneakerheads really eat, breathe and live shoes.
There are also plenty of toys to geek out over, including a private collection of Star Wars vintage toys. This exhibition features over 100 pieces of collectibles, including extremely rare ones that are worth more than USD $1,000,000!
Batman and Catwoman figurines, anyone?
And yes, it is true, you can get tattoos at Culture Cartel — not from just one tattoo artist, but plenty! Some parlous around include Good Life Tattoo Singapore.
Keep a lookout for Russian tattoo artist, Sasha Unisex, who’s here at Culture Cartel for the first time.
We were also stoked to find local talent at the convention. Get to bring back the epic ‘Fuck You Lah’ sliders from FLABSLAB, which were by the way in hot demand.
Also get to meet YouTuber Preeti Nair and buy her merchandise!
Plenty more shopping to be done:
Look forward to the trendiest streetwear brands from the region, with retailers comprising Cosmonaut, Fresh Cut, Mutha Puaka and more! Hugo Boss is there as well. Get to personalise your own Hugo shirt for a steep $119 and sweater at $219.
In need of some adrenaline? Go skateboarding courtesy of Vans!
Or challenge your strength at Skechers’ hammer station. The strongest man and woman stand to win a pair of Skechers Energy by choice! Or you could score 160 points and above to win a Skechers Jelly Bag.
Put those basketball skills to use at PUMA’s Slam Dunk Contest. The person with the best dunk trick walks away with a pair of PUMA shoes!
Last but not least, keep a lookout for YouTubers The Fung Bros and Richie Le who are in town just for Culture Cartel. They will be hosting On-The-Mic sessions, a new segment introduced by the convention this year. The duo and Le will be walking around the event space giving live updates via social media and interacting with artists, so you never know if you’ll miss them! Our suggestion? Stalk them closely on their social media pages or just camp yourself at the convention the entire day so you don’t miss a thing.
If you get hungry, don’t worry, they have food as well. Tuck into food from a wide range of F&B brands, including Overeasy and Broti.
All these are just small segments of the street culture convention; but from what we’ve seen so far, Culture Cartel seems pretty exciting and worth going to. Tickets start from $24 at the door. DBS/POSB card holders get 10% off!
