Still dreaming about being a Crazy Rich Asian? There’s a new trendy spot in town where you can be just that (sort of). Crazy Rich Thai is the latest café addition to Orchard’s Paragon, and it does live up to its name with its unconventional decor and experimental menu.
The café’s interior is pretty “crazy”, with half the café decked in bright mint hues and adorned with yellow blooms; while the other half of the café is completely stripped down to a monochrome black and white 2D theme that makes the place look like it came straight out of a comic book! The walls of the café are also lined with 2D “shelves” displaying various designer “bags”—very tai tai vibes indeed.
Following the “crazy” theme, Crazy Rich Thai’s menu is also novel, and one of the most unique items are their apothecary-inspired drinks. The Daily Dose Iced Lemon Thai Tea ($9.50) is a one-of-a-kind drink that comes served in a “cough medicine” bottle, along with a vial of sugar syrup and a ziplock bag of “pills” that are actually mini cookies!
The bottles and “pill” packet are even labelled with directions on how to consume them, as well as their possible “side effects”—very much like the actual prescribed medication you’ll get when you visit the doctor.
Other theatrical drinks that are served in “medicine” bottles are the Doctor’s Irish Coffee ($15) and Apothecary Iced Coffee Latte ($9.50). They also have an extensive list of other hot and cold drinks including milk tea, coffee, shakes, smoothies, beer and wine.
As for the food, the café puts a playful spin on Western and Thai ingredients, with creative items like Bullion Lobster Tom Yum Noodle ($33), Red Curry Ravioli ($22), Blue Blood Seafood Stew ($58), The Millionaire Chatter Platter ($24), Wealthy Crying Tiger Burger ($22) and more. You definitely can’t skip out on their desserts either, with highlights like Gold Digger Banana Pudding ($9), Big Apple Crumble Crepe ($9), Lod Chong ($8) and Jackfruit Khao Niao ($10), just to name a few.
