It’s no secret that Singapore is home to plenty of amazing artists, each unique and talented in their own ways. We came across one such artist on TikTok, whose novel take on the popular Japanese series, Attack on Titan, caught our eye. Going by the moniker The Next Most Famous Artist, Hafiiz Karim puts his own spin on the iconic Japanese series through a series of digital art collages.
If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like if the colossal Titans from the animated series were to invade Singapore, just take a look at Hafiiz’s latest work, titled Titans in Singapore. In the series of digital art collages, Hafiiz depicts what it would be like to have the larger-than-life Titans walking among us and invites us to imagine how it would impact the city and its inhabitants. The series sees giant Titans of varying shapes and appearances amongst some of Singapore’s most iconic architecture: skyscrapers, HDB buildings, and even MRT trains!
Through the Titans in Singapore series, Hafiiz also hopes to highlight that the Titans are not merely fictional horrors in a made up world, but that the creatures represent some very real deep-seated fears and anxieties that are present in the reality of our society. Sadly according to Hafiiz, the Titans in Singapore series is “just for fun”, and is not available for purchase as a print or in digital form, but you’re free to admire the work on Hafiiz’s Instagram and TikTok page.
Hafiiz describes his playful style of “remixing and combining different elements from various sources and time periods to create something new, thought-provoking and to highlight the beauty of everyday life”. His works draw inspiration from pop culture, classic art historical figures or cartoons, incorporating these characters into everyday life and the streets of Singapore, blending different cultures and perspectives to create something that is entirely unique, never-before-seen, yet meaningful. If you’d like to purchase one of Hafiiz’ prints, drop him a DM on Instagram!
