It’s not easy to find sushi for just $1 these days, but we found a new sushi restaurant that has affordable sushi from just $1 apiece! The newly-opened JUNRYO is tucked away in Orchard Plaza, with a unique build-your-own sushi course concept starting from $1.
JUNRYO’s space looks just like any other omakase restaurant, with only counter seating available. How it works is that you pick from a selection of 40 sushi varieties from the menu, to create your own “course”. Each sushi is then made to order and served to you piece by piece, sushi restaurant-style. There’s no minimum number of sushi pieces you have to order in order to dine here either.
Natto, $1
Tako Wasabi Gunkan, $1
Ama Ebi, $2
Ikura Gunkan, $3
Engawa, $3
Chirashi Kaisen Gunkan, $4
Aburi Madai, $4
There’s different price ranges you can pick from starting from $1 up to $10 for the most premium offerings. For $1 sushi, expect some basic options like Tamago, Inari, Natto Gunkan, Ebiko Gunkan and Tako Wasabi Gunkan. Most of the sushi options fall in the $2-$4 price range, including: Negitoro Gunkan ($2), Ama Ebi ($2), Akami ($2), Engawa ($3), Aka Ebi ($3), Kanpachi ($4), Aburi Madai ($4), Chirashi Kaisen Gunkan ($4), Hotate ($4) and more.
Kinmedai, $6
Chutoro, $6
Toro Zuke Inari, $6
Negitoro Uni Ikura, $7
Uni Gunkan, $10
More premium sushi is priced up to $10 apiece, with options like Chutoro ($6), Toro Zuke Inari ($6), Negitoro Uni Ikura ($7), Uni Gunkan ($10) and Aburi Hotate with Otoro ($10). The seafood used for the sushi were fresh and of good quality; we’d say they’re a step above conveyor belt sushi, but perhaps not as refined as regular or more “upscale” omakase restaurants. Overall though, no complaints on the quality, especially if you’re looking for pocket-friendly sushi that’s made on the spot.
They also offer an affordable House Sake ($10) with 100ml per glass. Note that all the prices listed above are before GST and Service Charge added. If there’s one thing you should know: JUNRYO only accepts walk-ins, and they have extremely limited seating with just 8 seats for dining. Our suggestion is that you come early before opening time (as there’s almost always a queue to enter) so you’ll be the first ones seated, or else be prepared to wait at least an hour to dine.
