2019 is set to end off on a fantastic note, as The Great Circus of Europe has finally arrived with their Big Top in town. Brought to you by veteran carnival group Uncle Ringo, this circus cum carnival affair is set to transform the Bayfront Event Space into a magical playground from now till 1 Jan 2020!
Whether or not you’ve seen a show in the ring before, this one by The Great Circus of Europe will blow you away. The modest space provides a cosy and intimate setting which allows you to get up close and personal with world-class performers who hail from around the world. We got a preview of the 90-minute extravaganza, here’s what to expect.
The Athumani Warriors kick off the show with their Hercules-like strength and crazy spinning acts. If you think that’s impressive, wait till the rest of the show!
Think you’re flexible? We bet all that stretching and yoga you do cannot compare to Prince Amiri aka The Bone Crusher. This contortionist from Tanzania is the original ‘rubber man’ for a reason — his sheer flexibility will either leave you going ‘ouch’ or ‘wow’. But either way, you’re in for a very entertaining time. If his skills aren’t freaky enough, he’ll even wave his feet to the sound of the music with his legs up in the air. What the heck?
All your fears of clowns will go away once you meet the friendly and mischievous Clown Andreea. Also, if you’ve always been wanting to shine on the circus stage, this is your time! This segment of the show will allow for audience interactivity as Clown Andreea will pick people to go up on stage and act in a skit directed by the missus herself.
What’s a circus without some acrobatic acts? The Serik Brothers display breathtaking aerial performances while suspended on long wovens straps 13 metres from the roof. They may look graceful, but their death-defying manoeuvres are extremely dangerous!
Hold your breath for The Gerlings, renowned for performing some of the most dangerous acts, such as racing on motorbikes inside an iron mesh globe known as the Thunderdome. Don’t blink as you might miss their best tricks — their bikes go at 45 miles an hour and have the same G Force as a fighter jet. It’s not just one or two bikes in the dome as well, but five!
The night doesn’t end once the performers take their bows — it’s your turn to have fun now at Uncle Ringo’s carnival! Expect the usual rides and games like Carousels, Bumper Cars, Water Paddle Boat, Inflatables and more!
Needless to say, you’re going to be winning a lot of soft toys here.
Plenty of Instagrammable spots here too!
If you’re hungry, stuff yourself silly with tasty bites from the food street. Expect the usual well loved food vendors like artisanal ice cream store Oddball and beef cube experts The Swag Social.
And yes, of course there will be bubble tea, aka every Singaporean’s favourite drink. Here’s Tiger Dot — another alternative to Tiger Sugar, maybe?
This time, there’ll be White Rabbit milk too! This stall rarely makes appearances at events, so grab something from them while you still can.
For Thai Milk Tea, Take A Bite is your go-to.
While food fairs and carnivals are no strangers here, you shouldn’t miss this one out, particularly because of The Great Circus of Europe. It’s an experience like no other and almost rare that Singapore plays host to a troupe as big as these guys. End off your year nicely with memories made from this ringo circus, you won’t regret it!
Tickets to The Great Circus of Europe are available from $70 and can be purchased from Uncle Ringo’s website. Admission to the carnival is free.
