Ottoman brews coffee the traditional Turkish way, using a pan filled with hot sand and heated over an open flame in order to ensure total control over the heat. The resulting coffee is thicker and more robust in flavour, as the coffee grounds are not filtered out of the finished cup, but rather left as “mud” at the bottom of the cup. When drinking a cup of Turkish coffee, you’re advised not to stir the coffee like you usually would with a regular cup of coffee. Instead, you should simply sip the coffee gently, so as not to disturb the coffee grounds at the bottom of the cup.
