[FIRST LOOK] HUIZE VAN WELY: FAMOUS 100-YEAR OLD DUTCH PATISSERIE & CHOCOLATERIE IN SINGAPORE WITH SWEETS FROM $2.50!

The highly-anticipated opening of Huize van Wely in Singapore is finally here, and here’s your sneak peek at what to expect from award-winning patisserie and chocolaterie! If you’re new to Huize van Wely, they’re a famous Dutch dessert shop boasting over 100 years of history, known for their boozy cakes, chocolate truffles, cookies and ice cream.

Huize van Wely Singapore opens at the ground floor of the iconic Raffles Hotel, boasting an elegant and sophisticated space for tea, brunch and cocktails. This opening also marks the brand’s first-ever dine-in concept with a café, tea room and cocktail bar.

The space oozes modern, colonial-esque charm: with arched walkways and high ceilings. You’ll also be greeted with a stunning glass display filled with sweet treats as soon as you walk in the door. The full brunch and high tea menu for Huize van Wely Singapore has yet to be confirmed, but we managed to sample some of their popular and best-selling dessert items ahead of the official opening.

Champagnecake (mini sample size)

Starting off with their most famous Champagnecake, priced at $65 for a whole cake that serves up to 8 persons. The dense cake is ultra boozy, with rich sponge cake soaked with Moët & Chandon champagne and layers of marzipan and white chocolate. If you like your sweets infused with alcohol, this cake is for you, though be warned that it’s pretty sweet, and definitely made for sharing.

Our favourites from the dessert selection has got to be the fresh fruit tarts (price TBC). The tart itself is nothing new, a classic flaky tart crust filled with smooth custard and fresh fruits—but is executed beautifully. The fruit tarts are light and refreshingly tart, a welcome change from all the sweetness from the rest of the desserts at Huize van Wely.

The assorted chocolate Truffles ($2.50 each) are also a must-try, and come in a wide variety of flavours like pistachio, mango passion, Irish coffee, limoncello, caramel and more. Their savoury and crunchy cheese-topped cookies are also worth a try, and you can get a box of them for $27.50. Across the board, most of Huize van Wely’s desserts are on the sweet side, and could get quite cloying after eating a few of them in a row. We suggest coming for their high tea set (price TBC) where you get to try some of their best sweets and savouries, or get a couple of different treats to share with a group.
