We’ve seen a couple of interesting cinema concepts lately, like the one where you get to enjoy an entire hotpot meal while watching a movie; but we’ve never seen a cinema concept like this. A brand new “swimming pool cinema” has just opened in Melaka, and it’s the world’s first ever pool cinema concept!

This never-before-seen concept by Blue Pool Junior is exactly what it sounds like, a swimming pool and cinema combined: so you can watch movies while soaking in the pool. But instead of a full-sized communal pool, the cinema has giant water tubs placed in front of a screen, so you get your own “private” pool.

For now, this swimming pool cinema experience is reserved for kids, and they’ll get to enjoy movie screenings in the “pool” along with complimentary snacks and drinks—all for just RM8 per person (~$2.45 SGD per person).

So far, the swimming pool concept has seen mixed reactions from netizens: with some wanting a version for adults too, while others are more concerned with looking like a shrivelled up prune after soaking in the water for the whole movie, as well as hygiene concerns as well. To address the hygiene queries, the founder has spoken up to say that Blue Pool Junior has their own Certified Pool Operator who will conduct “proper water treatment”, and the water used in the vats are also replaced daily.
