Korean BBQ with meats are aplenty in Singapore, but seafood KBBQ is much harder to come by, much less grilled eels—yes, eel. But we actually found a Korean seafood specialty restaurant that’s offering a limited time Korean grilled eel buffet from just $48++ per person!
Pohang Seafood & Butchery is known for their live seafood and fresh meats, you can see their meats on display from their fridge, as well as live seafood for sashimi swimming in tanks at the restaurant. And for you eel lovers, they’ve recently launched a new unlimited Korean Eel BBQ buffet from $48++ per person, available at both The Hillford and Aperia Mall outlets.
The eels served in the buffet are the popular Pungcheon eels, and they’re imported fresh from Korea on a weekly basis. Pohang’s new Korean Eel BBQ Buffet lets you enjoy unlimited eels and they’re brought to your table in long slabs that have been sliced and deboned. If it’s your first time having eels, the staff will grill them for you until they’re perfectly tender and lightly charred.
This Korean-style grilled eel is unlike the usual soy sauce-coated Japanese unagi you might be used to. There’s no additional seasoning or sauce added to the eel itself, only a light dusting of flaky sea salt on top. We felt that the eels are already tasty enough on their own, especially if you want to savour the natural fresh taste of eels. But feel free to make them even tastier by dipping in the various soy or spicy gochujang sauces provided; or even make a grilled eel ssam by wrapping with lettuce and perilla leaves.
Aside from unlimited Korean eels, the buffet also includes free flow servings of pork collar, pork belly and prawns; alongside a selection of unlimited side dishes, of course. Out of the meats, we liked the pork collar best for its juiciness, but if you ask us—we’d say just stick to ordering more eel, that’s what you’re there for anyway.
The unlimited Korean Eel BBQ Buffet is priced at $48++ per person on Mondays to Thursdays and $52++ per person on Fridays to Sundays. Dining time for the buffet is limited to 2 hours and wastage will be charged at $15 per 100g (no takeaways allowed). The eel BBQ buffet is available for a limited time only, till their current stock of ~1000kg of eels are all gone. But in case you missed it, not to worry: we’re told that the restaurant is looking to extend the buffet and bring in even more eel the next round if there’s a high demand for them!
At $48++ per person at what’s considered a pretty premium seafood-centric buffet with rare Korean eels, we’d say that this buffet is definitely a must-try. Unless you’re planning on travelling to Jeju or Busan soon, this buffet is probably the most authentic Korean BBQ eel experience you can find in Singapore.
