If you’re an avid cake lover—especially cheesecakes—this is a JB dessert café you’ll want to check out on your next visit. Moody Cow is a specialty cake café and tea house with multiple outlets across Malaysia, and they’re known for the chunkiest, thickest cake slices we’ve ever seen.
Moody Cow is located at Paradigm Mall Johor Bahru, about 15 minutes away from the checkpoint. Stepping into the space, we were greeted by tall, massive cake displays, showcasing over 40 different flavours of cakes. The cakes here are all cheesecake-based, with various unique non-alcoholic and alcoholic cake flavours to choose from. We were absolutely spoilt for choice with cake flavours: and they’ve got plenty of interesting and quirky flavours like Pink Venom, Drunken Wife, Beauty Queen, Evil Queen, Black Magic, Golden Moon and more.
The cakes are colourful, chunky and mega-sized, each measuring at least 6 inches in height. Each slice is already super tall, and some of them are even topped with extra toppings like fresh fruits, cream and fillings; making them even bigger and nearly overflowing. The cakes are so thick that we couldn’t even cut through the whole cake with a fork at one go! Prices per slice start from RM36 (~$10 SGD) to RM78 (~$23 SGD), with most flavours ranging between RM40 to RM50. Some signature flavours you could try include the Musang King Deluxe, Berries Heaven or Unholy Hennessy.
You might think that $20 for a slice of cake might seem pretty pricey, but trust us when we say these cakes are massive. One slice alone can probably be shared comfortably with at least 2 to 3 people. Taste-wise, the rich cheesecakes are ultra dense, sweet and very decadent. Unless you’re a serious cheesecake lover with a sweet tooth, we won’t recommend ordering multiple slices as they’ll be too gelat. If you’re planning on trying several flavours at once, definitely get them to share with a group, and order a pot of their specialty TWG teas to help balance the sweetness.
