1.ASYLUM Coffeehouse

Nestled within one of innumerable iconic blue and red heritage shophouses along Jalan Besar, the all-new ASYLUM Coffeehouse intends to serve as a home away from home, for guests seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Set to officially open on 18th May 2021, the café showcases a spacious, open concept with minimal indoor seating options beyond a central island bordered by wooden bar stools.

Designed to facilitate easy communication with the baristas and staff, guests of ASYLUM Coffeehouse can expect to see the café’s unique Espresso blend, known as Keluak, and a variety of other weekly, limited edition specialty beans for pour-overs, on the menu. Characterised by dominant chocolate, nutty and earthy notes, the Keluak was inspired by the Peranakan dish Buah Keluak, and is expected to pair effortlessly with the brand’s signature Sugee cake made from almonds and rum, topped off with a torched Italian meringue.

2. Aroma Coffee

Having tried and tested over 80 blends to arrive at their Aroma Specialty Blend, this coffee-centric company showcases a variety of unique aromatic notes, including, a fresh and floral Summer Blossom, refreshing Perky Peppermint, and intriguing flavours like Vineyard Peach, Mellow Mellon, Crème Caramel, and Dirty Earl.

Once a purely digital service, the brand’s newly opened physical storefront on 1st May, now marks its latest effort to bring their mind-boggling concoctions to the heartlands! Offering the residents of Yishun both hot ($5.50) and cold ($5.90) brews from 10am – 9pm, daily, this all-new wooden takeaway kiosk situated within Northpoint City’s South Wing, showcases a minimalist, sleek and futuristic ambience.

3. Éla

This year, The Black Hole Group – a collective of lifestyle brands with ‘a bottomless pit of potential’ – welcomed its ninth concept café. Beginning with the lofty ambition of starting a boutique hostel that retains the experiences and memories of past travels, The Black Hole first materialized in a tiny corner in the rooftop pantry, and quickly evolved into the gastronomy industry genius it is today.

Dubbed ‘Éla’, this all-new café along 2 Bukit Batok West represents The Black Hole’s ‘Little Lost Greek Place’ in the West. Branded as a family-friendly concept based on promoting healthier choice items, and scrumptious meals derived from the harmonious blend of peppers, citruses, oils, cheeses, and grilled meat, Éla showcases a Scandinavian colour scheme with minimal decorations.

4. Suzuki Gourmet Coffee

Reopening with a brand new concept, the Suzuki Factory Cafe is heavily inspired by the Land of The Rising Sun, and combines Japanese tradition with modern design. Showcasing a diverse range of fresh beans from all over the world, the Suzuki Factory Café is renowned for supplying gourmet coffee to clients such as Singapore Airlines, Shangri-La Hotel and Fairmont Hotel.

Set within a Kyoto-inspired wooden coffee house, the café features intricate design detailing throughout, with the incorporation of wooden lattice sliding doors, bar stools and long benches, alongside other textured seating options. Complete with a shishi-odoshi bamboo fountain, the Suzuki Factory Café exudes immense serenity, right down to the Japanese-inspired flora and fauna.

Designed to be a space of uninterrupted indulgence and endless ice cream, ThreePointTwo is easily distinguished by its predominantly blue and pink wallpaper which blends effortlessly into one another. 6. Bee’s Knees

Encouraging all guests to ‘bee social,’ and ‘bee connected’, the Bee’s Knees was conceptualised for those seeking a respite from the hectic city life, and is aptly housed within Singapore’s oldest surviving black-and-white bungalows from 1898. Designed strictly for fun and games, this café is the latest nature-themed adventure playground to crop up around town.

The café which prides itself in utilising the freshest ingredients, serves an expansive menu of delicious food at affordable prices. Of their innumerable offerings, the Bee’s Knees is best known for their $16 Salmon Bagel Eggs Benny, $20 Laksa Tiger Prawn Pasta, $26 Smoked Chicken Mayo Pizza, $13 Truffle Parmesan Fries, $17 Reuben Corned Beef and Pickled Cabbage Sandwich, and $27 Bee’s Knees Big Breakfast.

7. Crayon Shinchan Pop-Up Cafe

Kawaii, full of mischief and pranks, but much-loved throughout the manga universe, Crayon Shinchan’s entrance into the Kumoya space on 5th May 2021 has marked the brand’s 16th imaginative concept since its inception.

Showcasing a whole range of character-inspired dishes in his honour, courtesy of Shirley Wong (@littlemissbento) and the restaurant’s expert kitchen crew – the Crayon Shinchan Pop-Up Cafe includes a variety of mains, desserts, snacks, and drinks, in the form of Shinchan burgers, curry rice, pancakes, pasta, sponge cake, lava cake, onsen parfait, iced lychee tea, matcha frappe, iced latte, and ice chocolate!

Worth an estimated $10.90-$27.90 per meal, the Kumoya x Crayon Shinchan concept café will run for a limited time only with limited walk-in seating and reservations available on Chope! Via Kumoya’s social media platforms.

9. Abundance

Opened 22 April 2021, this all-new café near Redhill MRT, is set to offer a variety of Taiwanese-inspired eats and an array of craft beers. Housed within a cosy space situated a mere 5 minutes away from the station, Abundance showcases an old-school diner interior lined by white brick wallpaper, and minimal seating.

Characterised by wooden tabletops, red metallic chairs, and a vibrantly lit bar menu, Abundance invites guests to enjoy a diverse variety of mains, sides, desserts, and beer, including, the $9.90 Red Hot Chili Dumpling Noodles, $18 Niu Yolk Fried Rice with 100g beef short ribs, onsen egg, and beef fat, the $6.90 Gua Bao with braised pork belly, roasted peanuts, and pickles, and the $6 Golden Egg comprised of fried century egg, bonito flakes, and sweet and spicy sauce.

10. BigBigFries

Officially unveiling the brand’s first-ever dedicated stand-alone storefront, BigBigFries now invites guests to indulge in an array of handmade long fries with one sauce for S$5.90, or two fries for S$6.90; the signature Mentaiko Bomb for $10, and the $18 BigBigPlatter, amongst a multitude of other delectable offerings.

Housed within a palatial, and predominantly white space, the all-new BigBigFries café showcases a minimalist interior design, with a sporadic arrangement of low-rise seating, low-hanging light bulbs, and colourful pleated stools. Concealed by a cream curtain entrance, the all-new café is set to serve the brand’s most popular sauce options, including nacho cheese, truffle mayo, Himalayan pink salt, and of course, the famed Mentaiko mayo.
