8 Things to Do This Weekend (9th-11th October)

Here’s a list of things to do this weekend! From a fun ‘daycation’ at the beach to free outdoor yoga and virtual clubbing, we’ve got you covered.

1. High Tea for A Cause @ Pink Hope High Tea

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, many hotels have launched pink-themed high tea sets to bring awareness to the disease and celebrate the stories of survivors. Included on the list are Anti:Dote at Fairmont Singapore, The Golden Circle at Shangri-La Singapore, and 1864 Lobby Lounge at Sofitel City Centre. Diners can expect a wide range of sweet and savoury treats, all in soft shades of pastel pink for a super aesthetic high tea session that helps to advocate for a good cause.

Greatly regarded as the first notable work of the horror genre, the 77-minutes film tells the haunting story of a mysterious murder, and remains terrifying even a century after it was first made! If you’ve been hard at work and need a breather, Singapore Sports Hub’s got just the right activity for you. As a part of World Mental Health Day, free your mind and escape into a temporary state of zen with some socially distant outdoor yoga led by celebrity practitioners such as Denise Keller and Sarah Wee! No prior experience is required, and there are even workshops that teach you how to make your own scented hand sanitiser and mosquito repellent as part of the event.

5. Watch a Dreamy Live Poetry Performance

If you’ve been itching to catch a live performance that is actually live and not live-streamed, this multidisciplinary poetry performance by Toy Factory Productions will be a good opportunity to satisfy that inner theatre-buff. Featuring 20 works of poetry from A Dream Under the Southern Borough by Chinese poet Tang Xianzu, the performance will make use of both live and virtual elements to put together a fantasy landscape that tells a dreamy story. The 45-minutes performance will be performed in Mandarin with English subtitles at 3pm and 8pm on 10th October at the Drama Centre Theatre, and will also be available through digital live stream.

From 10th October onwards, Thriving Singapore will be showcasing the artworks of 14 visual artists based in Singapore through their virtual exhibition! As a way to bring together the community through creativity in arts and technology, the exhibit will be bringing over 30 artworks in various disciplines such as dance, music, art, and even meditation to viewers. Sounds like a perfect opportunity to appreciate some art and create some cultural awareness, doesn’t it?

7. Check Out A Cool Library Gallery Concept

Have you heard of the Library of Unread Books? For more than a decade, the interactive exhibition and private library has been building up with user-donated unread books, and will now be shown in the form of an art installation at the experimental art space I_S_L_A_N_D_S at Excelsior Shopping Centre. With a collection of 0ver 2000 donated books, the project provides a curious insight into what people choose to buy yet not read. You may even donate a book of your own and receive a life-long membership that allows you to reference books in the library!
