This year might be a bad time to travel, but we found a café in Tanjong Pagar that looks like a beautiful autumn wonderland in Korea, so you can “travel” to Korea without getting onto a plane!
Located along Maxwell Road, KREAMS Café is a Korean roastery café that serves the trendy Dalgona Coffee, as well as an array of freshly-baked scones. As we walked into the entrance, we were immediately captivated by the vivid autumn colours from floor to ceiling, as well as the spaciousness of the café(perfect for social distancing)!
As we took our seats, we caught a strong scent of coffee aroma and the fragrance of the freshly baked goods. It certainly brings out the tranquility of autumn that you would get in Korea!
Despite their rather small menu, they serve a good mix of traditional espresso drinks and trendy Korean coffee, such a Dalgona Latte($8), Sweet Potato Latte($8) & Dry Cappuccino($7). We ordered a Dalgona Latte and the Dry Cappuccino, and before you guys get too confused about the absence of whipped coffee foam, here’s a little context. “Dalgona” in Korean actually means “honeycomb toffee”(yes, those candies that are usually wrapped in chocolate), and not “whipped foam”.
Their Dry Cappuccino is another interesting concoction. Thick, creamy milk foam is added on top of the coffee, and generously powdered with cocoa powder. This drink was a little more on the sweeter side, but as an avid coffee drinker, I would definitely order this again.
KREAMS Café also prides themselves on homemade scones($4.50 each) that are healthy and lower in sugar content. According to the staff, the best time to get fresh-out-of-the-oven scones will be 10.30 in the morning, as the café opens its doors. They have a wide variety of flavours, including Cranberry, Coffee, Matcha, Chocolate, Korean Yuzu Citrus, Cinnamon & Almond, and Butter & Jam English Scone.
We ordered the Korea Yuzu Citrus and the Cinnamon & Almond scone to go with our coffee. Both the scones are full of its respective flavours. The Korean Yuzu Citrus scone has a refreshing and zesty fragrance, while the Cinnamon & Almond scone was rather rich with a subtle spiciness. However, the scones can be rather dry, so enjoy while it’s hot!
KREAMS is also an Instagrammer’s wonderland, with a unique autumn setting and good lighting throughout the day!
Wi-Fi and power plugs are also available in the café, if you’re looking to get some work done here.
