Come this weekend, it’s going to be a new month. That’s right, the first two months of 2019 are nearly over! And if you’ve been caught up with your work and school shenanigans, take a break and head outside. This weekend, watch a West End musical based on a classic children’s book, visit an ethical beauty flea, or (if you’re on a budget) giam some free steaks at a pop-up steakhouse.
1. Matilda
Another one of Roald Dahl’s novels comes to life on the stage! The Royal Shakespeare Company has adapted the beloved children’s story for the theatre, with an original soundtrack by Tim Minchin. Even if you haven’t read the book, Matilda is a magical journey of a gifted and talented girl who navigates a tough school life and being neglected by her family in an attempt to take charge of her own destiny. The gleefully nasty and ingenious story is loved by the entire family and people of all ages, so be sure to catch the West End Musical before the run is over!

2. teamLab x Miaja Gallery
Love the gorgeous digital art at Future World in the Art Science Museum and want more? Japanese art collective teamLab who’s behind the art installations will be exhibiting more works of art at Miaja Gallery. Titled Waves Of Light, the artwork explores the interaction between water and light by simulating the movement of waves in 3D.

3. Hayden James
Ballad singer and DJ Hayden James is coming to Singapore for one night only, and will be performing his best hits at Kilo Lounge. A crowd favorite at festivals like Coachella and countless sold out shows around the world, Hayden James has a knack for catchy tunes that you’ve probably heard on the radio. Groove to his gorgeous vocals and summer vibing tunes that has bagged multiple awards – a pretty impressive feat for someone who hasn’t even officially released an album yet.

4. The Ethical Beauty Marketplace
Many beauty brands are starting to embrace ethical skincare and makeup as it’s not only better for the environment, but also better for your skin as most brands go the extra mile to use organic and natural ingredients instead of synthetic ones. Learn about how to get started on an ethical skincare regime and exactly what it means when someone mentions “Green Beauty” at the upcoming Ethical Beauty Marketplace. Hosted by Beauty Uncovered, the marketplace will see 14 ethical brands showcasing their wares that includes skincare, makeup, and personal care items like soaps so that you can adopt a full ethical beauty routine.
Local skincare brand Alcheme that customizes bespoke skincare to your skin type and concerns will have their custom labs there for you to create your own routine. Other brands that will be there include Want Skincare, The Sustainability Project, and Frankskincare. Attend talks and workshops throughout the day to get tips on how to care for your skin and create bespoke skincare.

5. HSBC Women’s World Championship 2019
Every year, the best women golfers gather in Sentosa to battle it out for the highly coveted HSBC Women’s Champions title. Fans can head down to the green to watch their golfing idols in their element, before heading to the F&B area and rest area for plenty of side activities and to take part in the Beat The Pro golfing challenge to win prizes.
Female entrepreneurs might also be interested in The Island Exchange, an inaugural side-festival from HSBC Women’s World Championship targeted at ambitious business owners. 6. Soulfeed Presents Charlotte Witte
Techno lovers are probably heading straight for Zouk as Charlotte de Witte will be taking over the decks at the club with her relentless, stripped down beats this Friday. The Belgian DJ has defied all odds in a male-dominated industry and has become one of the most anticipated techno acts in clubs and festivals. She’s even slated for a Main Stage slot at Tomorrowland, the biggest EDM festival in Belgium. Alternatively, you can still catch her at Zouk because not all of us can afford festival tickets.

7. Meenah and Cheenah
The brazen clash of cultures by the comedic duo Judee Tan and Siti Khalijah is hilariously on point as they channel their inner meenah and cheena as they make their way through life. No free seat upgrades for guessing who plays who.
Back by popular demand, the parody play is full of chapalang humor with a dash of local satire. All the burning questions that you were too embarrassed to ask is answered: what do you wear for Racial Harmony Day, Ramadan etiquette, and even the difference between Malay and Chinese spirits. Who said that the local theatre scene is dying should check this play out as it’ll have you in fits of laughter even before the first sketch ends.

8. Feast on free steaks at The Feather Blade pop-up steakhouse
We’re not kidding around – there are free steaks at stake here. To kick off their pop-up steakhouse, The Feather Blade is giving away free steaks on 2 March. And we’re not talking about little steak bites on toothpicks. Each portion of steak weights a decent 200g, cooked sous vide before being seared for that smoky, charred flavor. The founder of The Feather Blade, Sheen, was inspired to start up his own steakhouse after his time at renowned English establishment Flat iron working the kitchen and in-house butchery.
If you missed the free steaks, you can still try them at the pop-up restaurant which will run for eight weekends in March and April. The menu only has one main – steak, but there are four different sides and a wider selection of beers, spirits and wines to choose from to go with your meat. The Feather Blade will be setting up shop at Zui Hong Lou, with plans for a more permanent location in the future.

9. Prudential Marina Bay Carnival
One month left for you to visit the biggest carnival in Singapore before it closes for the year! Try your hand at the many carnival games to win plushies for your significant other, or take one of the exhilarating rides for some slightly expensive cheap thrills. The bright neon lights and colorful sights make for pretty Instagrammable photos that we’re pretty sure you’ve seen on your feed countless times. The carnival is free to enter, so you can just drop in for a quick look if you’re around the area.

10. Guma Guma
Move over Japanese sweet potatoes, we’re into the Korean wave these days. Guma Guma, a sweet potato shop set up by a Korean family, has quietly opened up at Vivocity. The comforting baked sweet potatoes are very popular in Korea especially during the winter, and Jeffrey Hwang has set up shop here selling the delicious tubers. The honey sweet potatoes are imported from Korea, so you can be sure that you’re getting an authentic taste of K-land. Right now, there are only two things on the menu: Baked Sweet Potato ($2.90) and a Sweet Potato Latte. Hopefully there’ll be more to come!
