Festivals and events in Singapore
When it comes to plans for the weekend, partying is at the top of most people’s list – but if you’re tired of the usual bars and clubs, this week’s lineup of events has everything from craft beer and tea festivals, to artsy carnivals, and even a creative bazaar that might just be bigger than Artbox.
1. CREATIVE MILLENNIALS YOUTH KARNIVAL (CMYK)

Dive into a food and retail wonderland at the Creative Millennials Youth Karnival (CMYK), a massive creative bazaar with a whopping 500 pop-up stalls from countries like Australia, Hong Kong, Thailand, and the Philippines!
Organised to celebrate and encourage entrepreneurship among youths, the extravaganza boasts over 100 food vendors that’ll dish up both traditional and Instagrammable snacks, and more than 300 retail stalls that’ll sell unique handcrafted goods.

These include Thailand’s Nokkajib, local sunglasses store TYSABELLA, bubble tea joint LiHO, photo-worthy Cereal Citizen, and Korean-inspired sandwiches from Egg Stop!

That’s not all either – besides the stalls, there’ll be plenty of musicians and artists performing live, interactive games, trick art installations, photo booths, and a beer garden as well. The best part? Admission is free!

2. Art After Dark x 6th Anniversary Celebrations

Artsy folks, Gillman Barracks is turning 6 and they’re having a birthday extravaganza in conjunction with their signature Art After Dark open house! Spanning across the entire Gillman Barracks precinct, expect live music performances, interactive art installations, F&B stalls, as well as brand new gallery exhibitions at the Art After Dark x 6th Anniversary Celebrations.

Jam to a wide range of tunes by local Rock ‘n’ Roll trio THE PINHOLES, indie group Pleasantry, and eclectic punk rock band Tiramisu, and dig into a variety of savoury bites and sweet treats by vendors like Handlebar, Park Bench Deli, and more.

3. Craft Singapore 2018: The Drinking Edition

Beerfest Asia might be over, but craft beer connoisseurs can still knock yourselves out at this year’s 3-day craft festival – Craft Singapore 2018: The Drinking Edition! With a focus on craft beer, the festival will feature both local and international brewers, new and unique blends, beer-brewing masterclasses, as well as boutique and handcraft spirits.

Some of these breweries include Daryl’s Urban Ales, which specialises in seasonal brews, Menabrea Beer, one of the oldest continuously producing brewery in Italy, and That Singapore Beer Project, a 4-month-long social brewing project that has concocted a beer inspired by the preferences of Singaporeans!

Of course, delicious snacks from Vatos Urban Tacos, Sidecar Sausages, and The 1925 Brewing Co. will also be available to go with your ice cold beers, and other craft vendors like Artisan & Fox, Fairé, and Green Nomad will be present with ethical and stylish accessories, clothes, and handmade goods for sale.

4. Singapore Tea Festival

If you’re a tea lover, indulge in all things tea at the Singapore Tea Festival 2018! Featuring 30 tea and tea-related brands from all around the world, you’ll be able to sample over 100 different types of tea, discover unique tea flavours and rare blends, and try your hand at workshops hosted by some of the best in the industry.

Grouped into categories like local Modern Blends, single-origin Classic Blends, Lifestyle Brands, and Beyond Our Shores, keep a lookout for Kindred Teas, which has tea leaves that blossom into beautiful floral masterpieces, SUCR and The 1872 Clipper Tea Co., which offer uniquely Singaporean blends such as Durian Tea and Nonya Kaya Tea respectively, and Brew Me, which sells organic teas rich in volcanic minerals that hail from a plantation in Bali!

5. The Balvenie House of Craft

Show your support for handcrafted goods at The Balvenie House of Craft, a gathering of skilled and aspiring craftsmen from all over Asia! Held across 4 weekends this September in an old industrial block, this unusual pop-up will showcase craft workshops, intimate dinners prepared by young local chefs, and indie movie screenings.

The hands-on workshops available this weekend include leather pouch making, botanical watercolour illustrations, and terrarium designing, and booths by artisan vendors like bean-to-bar chocolate maker Fossa Chocolate will also be around!

To top that off, exclusive bespoke creations will also be up for grabs – think hand painted leather bags by professional Marquage painter, Cherin Sim.

7. Singapore by Nguan

Known for his pastel, dreamy-looking street photography, you’ll be able to view his decade-spanning series “Singapore” in a physical exhibition as part of the Singapore International Photography Festival 2018.

8. Mid-Autumn at Gardens by the Bay 2018

9. Rainforest Lumina

We’ve never had the chance to see the sun setting at the Singapore Zoo, but in celebration of its 45th birthday, we can now do so with their brand new attraction, Rainforest Lumina! It’s the first multi-sensory night walk in Asia, and the 1km light trail features over 10 interactive zones with various light installations and projections such as the Luminous Pathway, Shimmering Islands, and Lantern Passage.
