1. On Sharks and Humanity

Marking the launch of Parkview Museum, On Sharks and Humanity will be the first exhibition at the new art space in Parkview Square. Addressing pressing environmental issues like the protection of sharks and ocean conservation, the exhibition highlights the effects humans have had on this species and the environment. More than 30 art pieces by local and international artists will be exhibited.

2. Istana Open House

The Istana is only open to the public 5 times a year – during Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Labour Day, National Day and Deepavali. For a small fee, you can tour the Istana Main Building and also take guided tours through the gardens.

3. Chinatown CNY Light-up and Opening Ceremony

Chinese New Year is just around the corner, and just like how we go to Orchard Road to look at Christmas lights, we head to Chinatown to see the Chinese New Year decorations. New Bridge Road and Eu Tong Sen Street will be set up with bright lights and handmade sculpted lanterns, and performances by local and international artists will be on show for the public.

Javanese artist duo Indieguerilla’s exhibition is a collection of pieces on their view on the socio-economic state of the Indonesian society. It is a fusion of modern art with aspects of their local culture – a critique on society’s materialism and greed, as well as the global consumer phenomena.

5. State of Motion 2017: Through Stranger Eyes

The 2017 edition of State of Motion brings participants to different locations around Singapore to learn more about the history of Singaporean cinema, and at each site, there will be an artwork responding to both the film and the location. There will also be screenings, talks, workshops and exhibitions for everyone to take part in.

6. Intersection

A collaboration between poet Marc Nair and visual artist Nicola Anthony, this exhibition is an amalgamation of two talents, where Nair’s poems are transformed into tangible art pieces by Anthony. Poems written on a ship in a bottle, laser-cut letters in a cabinet of oddities, and drawings hand burnt with incense sticks – these are a few things you can expect from the exhibition.

7. Gone Down Under: Australia Day Celebration

Tanjong Beach Club is having an Australia Day celebration, where 3 DJs from down under – DJ Dave Code, Dave Does, and Adam Sky – will be spinning tunes throughout the day. There will be nostalgic Australian dishes on the barbie like the Aussie burger, sausage sizzles, egg rolls and chocolate Lamingtons up for grabs, and some Australian beer like the James Squire Golden Ale.
