8 AESTHETIC NEWLY-OPENED CAFÉS IN SINGAPORE TO VISIT THIS SEPTEMBER 2023!

1. The Coffee Code

Hailing from Sarawak, Malaysia, this popular café has finally opened its first outlet in Singapore! The café boasts a modern Scandinavian-inspired interior design and warm mood and cream tones, with a spacious indoor area decorated with sofa seats to give it a homey feel. There’s also a couple of outdoor patio seats as well.

The café is famed for their waffles, especially the unique black rice, bak kwa and nian gao flavour variations. Highlights from the menu include the T.C.C Chicken Waffles ($19), as well has other brunch items like Classic Big Daddy Breakfast ($24), Avocado Mushroom ($18) and more. They also offer soft serves, bakes and coffee.

2. Rachelrax Cakes

Step into a Barbie-inspired dreamhouse at Rachelrax Cakes, a popular dessert café that has finally opened its first dine-in space in Serangoon! Rachelrax started as a home-based business, and has garnered a loyal fanbase for their tarts, entremets and galaxy cakes.

The café is decked entirely in bubblegum pink, with quirky pink furniture to match. They’re known for their adorable mini tarts (from $14.80 for a box of 6), with flavours that change up periodically. On the current line-up are unique local-inspired flavours like Ondeh Ondeh, Orh Nee, Soya Pudding, Kaya Toast and Chendol, among others

3. Caffè Affogato

Previously known as The Affogato Bar, Caffè Affogato is an Italian-inspired concept that has since rebranded and moved to a new space hidden within The Star Vista. Now, the café is more of a bagel and gelato joint, with a clean and airy minimalist space. You can grab their assorted bagels (from $3.30) to have them plain, or jazz them up with various fillings.

For a more filling meal, go for their bagel sandwiches, with options like Turkey & Basil ($15), Portobello Truffle ($13), Mediterranean ($12), Breakfast Club ($14) and more. There are also plenty of gelato options (from $5.50), pastries and affogato of course.

4. Éla

Éla is homey Mediterranean concept by The Black Hole Group, and they’ve recently opened their latest outlet along Jalan Sultan—the second branch in Singapore! The new space is inspired by a Greek tavern, boasting high ceilings and a cosy, intimate space that feels like you’re dining in someone’s home. Unlike the first outlet, the new outlet will also be serving brunch items.

Must try Greek favourites from the menu include Moussaka ($22), Lemon Garides Pasta ($24), Beef Kofta Wrap ($19), Taramosalata ($9), Orzo Pilaf Rice ($6) and more. They also have a selection of mocktails, coffee and tea for drinks. Éla is a halal-friendly spot.

5. Delato

Looking for a new late-night dessert spot in Singapore? Look no further than Delato, a cosy little gelato café with affordable handcrafted gelato and mochi waffles. Delato’s space is pretty compact, with a zen, almost Japanese-esque vibe and only several tables indoors and outdoors for dine-in patrons.

The café specialises in Sicilian-style gelato which doesn’t incorporate egg yolks, and they offer a rotation of 12 different gelato flavours daily (from $4.20) including the likes of Maple Walnut Pie, Cereal Milk Chocolate Swirls, Pink Guava Berries, Mango Basil and more. Waffles also start from a pocket-friendly ($6) with duo flavours or matcha mochi.

6. Marymount Bakehouse

This popular home-based bakery has finally opened their first physical outpost, sharing the space with local chocolaterie Mr Bucket Chocolaterie! Now you can get both your bread and chocolate fix at the same place! The 2-in-1 concept is mostly a takeaway joint, with several camping style tables and chairs stationed outside if you simply must eat your treats on the spot.

On the menu for Marymount Bakehouse are freshly-baked sourdough breads, loaves and pies; in addition to Mr Bucket’s chocolate bon bons, drinkable chocolate and handcrafted chocolate bars. Highlights from the menu include Pain de Champagne ($15), Marymount Shokupan ($16.60), Applewood Smoked Mushroom ($18.80), Shepherd’s Pie (from $16.90) and more.

7. Fluid

Here’s another hidden coffee spot for you coffee lovers out there! Tucked away within Opal Crescent is Fluid, with its raw, minimalist (but no less aesthetic) interior. The industrial-inspired space has minimal indoor and outdoor seating, and is illuminated by a paper lantern-esque light fixture.

Brought to you by the folks behind Double Up Coffee, Fluid also roasts their own coffee beans in-house. The coffee menu is pretty lean, with nothing too fancy. Instead, they offer classic coffee brews from $5 a pop, including Black, White, Filter or Chocolate.

8. Rehash Gastrobar

Inspired by the retro aesthetic of the 80s and 90s, Rehash takes us back to the good ol’ days with their nostalgic and aged vintage feel. The industrial-inspored space boasts bespoke art walls, as well as various memorabilia from the past: old tech, board games, zines, and knick knacks.

The fusion menu is made for sharing, with items like Old Skool Anchovies ($8), Winging It ($10), The Tickly Trio Seafood Platter ($12.50), Rehash Curry Bowl (from $11), Quinoa Chicken Tagine ($11.50) and more. They also have an extensive selection of booze like beer, cocktails, spirits/liquors and mocktails. Rehash officially opens on 19th September 2023.
