The popular (and now defunct) Lee’s Confectionery has made a comeback with a brand new name and pastry offerings in Nickel—and in a more Central location too! The interior is pretty minimalist, with a raw industrial-inspired theme and neutral tones accented with wood furnishings. Seating is also pretty limited, with only a couple tables and counter seats available indoors.

The café currently focuses on specialty coffee and viennoiseries for now, and will be adding more of their fan-favourite plated desserts in future. On the dessert menu are pastries from the display like croissants, pain au chocolat, kouign amann and more; while current offerings for plated cakes include Choc ($13), Dale ($13) or Otto ($15).

2. Ought

Tucked away in Peace Centre is Ought, a kind of hole-in-the-wall coffee joint serving artisanal sips and bakes. The cosy little café is minimally adorned, with an intimate and moody vibe, serving coffees by Prodigal Roasters.

The menu is extremely lean, with only a couple of coffee and tea options (from $3.50): espresso, americano, white coffee, mocha, chocolate or brewed peach tea. They’ve also got a few bakes to choose from, like Sourdough Fudge Brownie, Cranberry White Choc Scone, and Lemon Drizzle Loaf, just to name a few.

3. Keong Saik Bakery

The popular homegrown café chain has opened yet another outlet at Jewel Changi Airport, so you can get your fix of their signature bakes before you fly! The café has more of an open concept within Jewel, with ample seating for you to dine-in.

Beloved Melbournian café chain, Brunetti, is back in Singapore as Brunetti Oro, offering classic Italian pastries and coffee. The famous Italian-inspired café chain is located in the heart of the CBD, in the lobby of an office building, with an open concept space and a scenic view of the Singapore River.

On the menu are cooked mains like pizzas and pastas (from $13.90), such as Linguini with Portobello Mushroom Ragout, Schiacciata, Lasagna and more. They’ve also got a selection of sweets like pastries, cakes, entremets and macarons you can choose from the display. The bar area serves drinks like their signature coffee, tea and cocktails.

5. Moonchild

Possibly one of the hottest café openings in Singapore this month, Moonchild is the latest addition to Atlas Coffeehouse’s suite of concepts. Other popular brands under Atlas include Columbus Coffee Co., Apollo Coffee Bar, Neptune, Supernova and more. Moonchild is also a pet-friendly café (outdoors), with a spacious industrial-inspired sunlit space and a sunroof as a centrepiece.

Designed to feel like a home, Side Door is a new café by day and gastrobar by night. The space is homey, with tall ceilings, raw exposed concrete and tiling accents reminiscent of nostalgic HDBs. the seats are also pretty unique, with “tree stumps” as stools instead of the usual chairs.

As far as gelato cafés go, the new Muted might just be one of the most aesthetic, designed to look almost like an art gallery. The space is stripped down with no frills in the decor, soft curved arches and shades of peachy pink.

The gelato (from $5) is freshly made with no artificial flavouring or colouring, and boasts “intense natural flavours” made from premium ingredients. Flavour options include Earl Grey Sakura, Evergreen Sorbet, Strawberry Cacao Nibs, Roasted Hojicha, Coco Mango, Hokkaido Cookies and more. They also serve coffee and matcha drinks to go along with the gelato.

Hidden in the heart of town, A Slow Cup shares a space with the Painted Nail Bar, so you can get both your café fix and nails done at the same time. The space has a warm terracotta-hued space with small tables and stools for seating at the front, while the nail salon is located towards the back.

This is a unique café concept that doubles as a shaved ice café and art gallery all in one! ART ICE is located in a beautiful heritage shophouse in Duxton, and is decorated with paintings by Slovakian artist, Petra Beaukova. Featured artists are set to change periodically, and will be displayed throughout the space, so you can view them at your own leisure as you dine.

Have you ever had rösti in burger form? SEAL is a new café concept by STRETCH (the viral stretchy ice cream joint), offering Singapore’s first ever rösti burgers or Röffles! Instead of your usual burger buns, the Röffles have crispy waffled rösti “buns” that are then used to sandwich your choice of burger ingredients: grilled meat, scrambled egg, cheese and sour cream for a one-of-a-kind burger stack.
