If arts and culture get you excited, you’re in for a treat this weekend – on top of a world-famous ballet that’s been around since the 19th century, there’s a whole lineup of arts-centric festivals happening, like the Swedish Film Festival and the Singapore Heritage Festival.  

1. Swedish Film Festival

Film buffs, grab yourselves some popcorn at the Swedish Film Festival and enjoy the visual masterpieces of renowned Swedish filmmaker, Ingmar Bergman. Meant to celebrate the 100th-year anniversary of Bergman’s birth, there’ll be 8 of his films screening, which includes award-winning ones like the tear-jerking Wild Strawberries, haunting Cries and Whispers, and the radical psychodrama, Persona.

2. Singapore Heritage Festival 2018

The 15th edition of the Singapore Heritage Festival is here, and it’s a perfect opportunity for us to become tourists in our very own country! Expect tours, food trails, cultural performances, and even opera and miniature food sculpting workshops as part of the programmes in store.

The highlights of this week’s lineup include a trip to the oldest surviving dragon kiln in Singapore, plus a “Creative Market” street party at Jalan Besar – there’ll be a range of specially curated handmade works by artists, fashion designers, and craftsmen for you to bag home, like Forest Collective’s quirky temporary tattoos!

3. Giselle

If you love romance films and novels, head down to the Esplanade for a night with the Singapore Dance Theatre – they will be performing their longest-standing classic Giselle, a romantic ballet that originated from the 19th century.
The story revolves around love, betrayal, revenge, and madness, and with it being hailed “the Hamlet of ballets” by critics, you can be sure that you’ll be in for a great show.

4.  World Gourmet Summit

For those of you food connoisseurs out there, this one’s for you – the annual World Gourmet Summit is back for its 22nd year, with the theme “The Discovery WGS”. Featuring Southeast Asian haute cuisine, there’ll be special menus from celebrated locals restaurants like Bacchanalia Singapore, Hua Ting Restaurant, and Gattopardo Ristorante Di Mare, as well as lesser-known cuisines from Asia, America, and Eastern and Central Europe.
Diners can also look forward to wine tasting sessions with prized pours from top wine-producing regions like Bordeaux, Burgundy and Tuscany, and hands-on cooking workshops with Michelin-starred chefs such as Kevin Thornton and French legend Raymond Blanc.

5. Singapore Yacht Show 2018

6. NAFA Arts Festival 2018

If you’re heading to town, drop by the Opening Arts Carnival that’s part of the NAFA Arts Festival 2018! The 3-day carnival will have music and theatre performances, on top of around 40 pop-up food stalls and fashion vendors like Jiakuma, Gemnesis, and minimalystco selling unique and quirky handmade accessories, apparel, and bags!
