Best known for their shophouses and old-school charm, the Katong and Joo Chiat neighbourhoods have always been places of delicious local fare, durians, and touristy photos. But come 15th and 16th December, they will be given a unique glo-up by MINI and transformed into a playground for adults.

Known as MINI EXTRAODDINARY, the inaugural art trail boasts a total of 18 experiential installations weaved in between conserved shophouses and forgotten alleyways.

Meant to get our creative juices flowing and rethink the use of space, buckle up and explore a pop-up bookstore in the famous Song Kee Fishball Noodle with books curated by the well-loved Basheer Graphic Books, a backyard tea bar by Antea Social where you can sip on an exclusive blend of blue pea tea, and a custom-built 10 seater swing!

Adventurers can also dive into an impromptu game at a mini-croquet court, challenge a monstrously-long hopscotch, grab a piece of chalk and doodle all over a communal art piece by illustrator “KROME”, and bring home a postcard set made from a window shutter turned ink stamper, to name a few.

To guide you through the labyrinth of alleys, MINI has maps plastered around the streets, an interactive map available online here, and a version for download here.

Choy’s guilty pleasures include reading dog encyclopedias for leisure, prancing to songs by Kollectivit and The Lonely Island when she’s home alone, and eating the skin off her chicken nuggets before biting into the meat. Mmm...
