If you’re looking for a unique dining spot that’s more under-the-radar, look no further than Hashida Abura Kappo, a new Japanese “restaurant in a restaurant” concept! Hashida Abura Kappo is not like your usual hole-in-the-wall joints, and has a dedicated private room hidden within the original Hashida restaurant space.

The restaurant serves only a 13-bite course menu at $200++ per person, which you can enjoy in an intimate and beautiful private setting with decor that’s inspired by an elegant Shinto shrine. The name Abura Kappo is derived from the word “oil”, a fundamental component in Abura Kappo’s menu, as they focus on mostly fried and deep-fried dishes that are presented in innovative and unique ways.

Expect a novel series of different bites, including Japanese-influenced fusion items like Blue Cheese Monaka, deep-fried Camembert, Wagyu Beef Tempura, Duck Salad, Soft Soba Taco, Oden Tempura Shiitake chocolate and more.

Some of the items even have fun and interactive presentations, like the Tebagyoza that’s shaped just like a fried chicken drumstick, but is actually a play on the classic Japanese dish, oyakodon and is stuffed with chicken, rice and egg. There’s also DIY elements where you make your own maki using deconstructed donabe ingredients and toppings like spicy tuna, prawn tempura and Korean “kimbap”.
