Find your rest at this new specialty coffee studio tucked away in Alexandra Village, a cosy Japanese-style café with one-of-a-kind “coffee omakase” sessions! Kyūkei Coffee means “rest” in Japanese, and looks to be a tranquil getaway where coffee lovers (and beginners) can come for a good cuppa.

The minimalist wood-themed space has limited indoor seating (only a few), with a couple more camping-style outdoor seats and tables. What’s special about Kyūkei is that they offer unique “coffee omakase” sessions (from $15 per person), a kind of coffee tasting experience where you can discover new coffee flavour profiles and learn a little more about coffee while you’re at it.

You’ll be served a total of 4 different coffee brews (2 espressos and 2 lattes) featuring 2 different types of coffee beans, along with 2 complementary side dishes to pair with the coffee and sparkling water to cleanse the palate. The side dish pairings served will differ depending on the coffee, but some examples include dried apricot, milk chocolate and apples, among others—each specially selected to enhance the coffee’s tasting notes.

The private “omakase” sessions will be held coffee cart-style outside the café itself, only on selected days. For updates on when the next “coffee omakase” will be held as well as booking information, stay tuned to Kyūkei’s Instagram for updates. Regular coffee options on the menu include classics like Long Black ($4.50), Flat White ($5), Cappuccino ($5.50), Espresso ($4) and more.

The café also serves a selection of house-made bakes from the display, like cruffins, canelés, banana bread, financiers and toasties, just to name a few. You can even grab a specially-designed Kyūkei Coffee t-shirt from their retail section!
