Regarded Singapore’s first pop-up café with a reputation for ever-changing themes, Kumoya was first established in October 2016. Starting with an emphasis on providing exquisite, handcrafted French-Japanese inspired desserts such as pancakes, plated parfaits and karafuru, this café has since gradually evolved into the ultra-kawaii space it is today.
From a Cinnamoroll-themed interior décor and menu, to Miffy, Care Bears, Tokidoki, Mr Men & Little Miss, My Little Pony, Pusheen, Snoopy, Sesame Street, We Bare Bears, Little Twin Stars, and Molang, amongst a multitude of other childhood characters – long-term patrons of Kumoya lionize the brand for its innovative ability to remain new and exciting.
Through paying meticulous attention to detail and providing a wide array of merchandise and memorabilia, Kumoya is one of few restaurants to successfully create an rejuvenated and authentic experience, every single time.
This month, Kumoya invites guests to yet another themed pop-up café! Living quiet and solitary lives in the corner, Kumoya’s latest gang of fictional characters, are the jolliest wallflowers you’ll ever meet. Produced by Japanese company San-X, Sumikko Gurashi literally translates to “life in the corner”, and was inspired by the feeling of comfort when one is near a corner, or far from the limelight.
The café will thus feature a polar bear who dislikes the cold, Penguin? who is unsure of being a penguin, Tonkatsu, a piece of leftover pork cutlet, Neko, a timid and anxious cat, and Tokage, a dinosaur who pretends to be a lizard.
Conceptualised in collaboration with award-winning food artist and blogger, Shirley Wong, this all-new installation will mark the first semi-permanent San-X characters pop-up cafe in South East Asia. Complete with a curated menu of 6 Snacks, 6 Mains, 3 Desserts and 13 drinks, The Sumikko Gurashi pop-up will run for a limited time, from Friday, 12th March 2021 at the Kumoya Orchard Central store on level 4.
Guests are invited to walk-in anytime from Monday to Sunday at 11.00am to 9.30pm, or reserve a seat in advance through the official Chope and Kumoya social media sites.
