Events and festivals to check out!
Besides chilling at home this weekend, why not have fun before the Monday blues set in! This week’s lineup of events has everything from food and music festivals, to an all-you-can-drink alcohol event, and even the famous colour run where everyone turns into rainbows!
1. The Great Food Festival

The Great Food Festival (TGFF), Singapore’s largest food festival, is back for its second edition. If you’re an enthusiastic foodie, indulge in tantalising dishes executed by reputable chefs and bakers from all over the world! Featuring Michelin-starred and award-winning restaurants, get ready for a satisfying feast!

The celebration will allow you to explore the 3 festival zones – Star Chef Arena, Rollin’ Sweet Times and The Cellar. Each festival zone is unique and exciting in its own way. For example, in Rollin’ Sweet Times, you will get to taste exquisite modern desserts such as a reconstructed egg tart and even a mermaid Magnum! So be prepared to snap pictures of your Instagrammable desserts! In Star Chef Arena, be prepared to be dazzled by sublime skills and talents of celebrity chefs, who will transform ingredients into the most delectable creations for you! Then, have a fantastic time tasting premium wine and cuts of meats and cheese in The Cellar!

2. Sake Matsuri

As Singapore’s first and largest sake festival, Sake Matsuri is a one-day event that features up to 200 craft sakes with free-flow tasting! Besides drinking sake, you can also find out about the Japanese sake culture and appreciate the history of sakes.
Sample rare sakes that have never been in Singapore before. Among these are the well sought-after Dassai and Tatenokawa brands, artisanal labels such as Yukinobousha, Bijoufu, and Gasanryu. Plus, look out for tableware and homeware from Japan as they are sold at the event too!
For an additional price of $10 – $30, you will have the opportunity to learn more about sake-making and get sake-choosing advice from experts through masterclasses and brewery spotlights too! Slots are limited, so make sure to register online here.

3. The Color Run Superhero Tour

4. Halloween Horror Nights

Halloween Horror Nights 8 (HHN8) is back for 18 terrifying nights with 5 haunted houses! Featuring the very popular Netflix series ‘Stranger Things’, the other haunted houses include ‘Pontianak’, ‘The Haunting of Oiwa’, ‘Pagoda of Peril’ and ‘Killuminati’.
Pontianak is a Malay Kampung that’s haunted by a woman that died a tragic death, The Haunting of Oiwa takes us back to the Japan edo-era, Pagoda of Peril is full of demonic creatures that fight for freedom while Killuminati is about Chinese vampires.

5. Public Garden Consumer Trade Show

If you are looking to purchase attractive little knick-knacks like pouches, accessories or sandals, this event is perfect for you! Public Garden hosts a cool flea featuring vendors from both the offline and online arena from cities such as Johor Bahru, Bandung, Chiang Mai, Jakarta, Bangkok, Bali, Singapore and even non-asian cities like Taiwan and China.
Besides the flea, there are creative workshops for the crafty ones out there. You can learn to make the handicrafts that the experts have done!

It has expanded into a Consumer Trade Show where it supports local and regional business owners. You will be in for a treat as you may find unexpected treasures as brands like Two Elephants, Pace Shoes and Seven O Nine have been working hard to launch their new designs over the 2 days.

6. The Archifest 2018
If you are interested in architecture and design, Archifest is perfect for you! The Archifest (Singapore Architecture Festival) celebrates architecture and the built environment. Look out for Archifest’s highlight – ‘The Curious Case of Potted Plants In HDB’, a series of short talks by young architects at the Archifest Pavilion from 4PM to 5PM on the 30th of September!

Through a series of design-related projects,conferences, workshops and tours, the festival invites everyone to play a part in enhancing the world we live in. Even if you are not a huge fan of architect, there are many Instagrammable installations for you to take pictures of! Plus, admission is free!

7. The Balvenie House of Craft

This is the last weekend for you to show your support for handcrafted goods at The Balvenie House of Craft, a gathering of skilled and aspiring craftsmen from all over Asia! Held across 4 weekends this September in an old industrial block, this unusual pop-up will showcase craft workshops, intimate dinners prepared by young local chefs, and indie movie screenings.

The hands-on workshops available this weekend include leather pouch making, botanical watercolour illustrations, and terrarium designing, and booths by artisan vendors like bean-to-bar chocolate maker Fossa Chocolate will also be around!

To top that off, exclusive bespoke creations will also be up for grabs – think hand painted leather bags by professional Marquage painter, Cherin Sim.

8. Singapore by Nguan

Don’t miss out on your final chance to catch Nguan’s stunning works in person! With 150k followers on Instagram, local photographer Nguan is no stranger to most shutterbugs and photography enthusiasts. Known for his pastel, dreamy-looking street photography, you’ll be able to view his decade-spanning series “Singapore” in a physical exhibition as part of the Singapore International Photography Festival 2018.

9. Rainforest Lumina

We’ve never had the chance to see the sun set at the Singapore Zoo, but in celebration of its 45th birthday, we can now do so with their brand new attraction, Rainforest Lumina! It’s the first multi-sensory night walk in Asia, and the 1km light trail features over 10 interactive zones with various light installations and projections such as the Luminous Pathway, Shimmering Islands, and Lantern Passage.
