Upcoming festivals and events in February
Chinese New Year has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing to look forward to this weekend. With a whole line-up of fun-filled events ranging from colourful festivals and flea markets to romantic picnics with live jazz performances in store for you this 24th and 25th of February, there’ll definitely be something for everyone to mark their calendars for.
1. Diva to the Death

If you’re planning for a fancy date night out this weekend, book yourself a seat for 2 at Monti’s ‘Diva to the Death’, a unique theatrical dining experience that boasts interactive entertainment on top of delectable Italian-Singaporean fusion dishes.

Audiences will get to vote on how the play unfolds as they dine on mouthwatering creations like Chilli Crab Kueh Pie Tee, Laksa Risotto, and Wagyu Beef Crostini. Two complimentary Hendrick’s Gin cocktails will also be served, which can be switched to non-alcoholic mocktails on request.

And when the show’s over, stay on for some merrymaking at their after-party (11.30PM – 2AM) and watch the bar transform into a Jazz-Hip Hop club with free entry and a live DJ set!

2. Chingay Parade

The annual Chingay Parade is just around the corner, and once again, you can expect to be wowed by an extravaganza of elaborate floats, cultural performances, street food, and firework displays.
The parade itself will be happening from 8PM – 9.45PM, but feel free to drop by earlier as street performances like stilt-walking and opera will also be happening around the area from 5PM – 10PM, with up to 23 food and drink stalls set up.

Sink your teeth into tasty bites like beef sliders, hotdogs, and Hokkaido cheese toasts, and quench your thirst with drinks that range from cold brew coffee to butterbeer.
There’s also a bazaar-like Chingay 2018 Heartlands Celebration on Sunday at Chinatown, where you can get up-close with the parade floats and street performers along Eu Tong Sen Street and New Bridge Road! Better yet, there’ll be fireworks and firecrackers to end off the procession with a bang.

3. MAAD, Market of Artists And Designers

For those of you who love handmade crafts, head on down to MAAD, Market of Artists And Designers, where you can get quirky, one-of-a-kind designs on a whole range of items such as clothes, shoes, jewellery, paintings, and even furnishings. The products on sale will all be original works by our local artists and designers.

MAAD is also held in conjunction with iLight from 9th March onwards so don’t miss this Saturday’s slot – you’ll get first dibs!

4. “I still do” couples’ picnic

Held at Fort Canning Green, there’ll also be scrapbooking sessions and a photobooth present for you to have a fun-filled romantic day out. Plus, admission is free, which is all the more reason to head down and spice up your dating game from the usual chill sessions at home!

5. Rang Barsay 2018

If you love to party, you’re in for a treat at Rang Barsay 2018. Filled with lots of brightly coloured powder, water sprinklers, alcohol, and DJs spinning adrenaline-pumping beats, it’s a celebration for Holi, the Festival of Colours.
There’ll be a whopping 1000 kg worth of eco-friendly coloured powder at the party, so you can be sure to be in for some serious powder-throwing! What’s more, Indian snacks will be provided at the festival for you to refuel when you get peckish. Make sure to book your tickets early though, because past years’ celebrations were all sold out.

6. Flea Party

With the little fortune that we’ve amassed from all the red packets received during CNY, it’s no surprise that some of us are already looking for new additions to add to our wardrobes – grab a shopping bag and make your way down to Flea Party to snag yourself some sweet bargains.

A grand total of 25 booths will be present at the flea on 25th February, with most of them letting go mainly second-hand clothes that are still in great conditions at less than $5.
But if you’re interested in earning an extra buck or two instead, pack up your pre-loved outfits, sign up for a booth space on the 24th of February for just $107, and join the other 19 vendors who’ll be there!

7. EVITA

Fans of musicals, EVITA is an iconic Broadway and West End hit that you won’t regret watching – it has over 20 major awards under its belt.
A joint production between Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, the musical follows Eva Peron, wife of former Argentine dictator Juan Peron, and her tumultuous journey as she rose from humble beginnings to become the powerful and revered “spiritual leader of the nation”.
Some of the play’s most famous songs include Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, You Must Love Me, and Oh What A Circus, so keep your ears peeled for those!

8. SCAPEs: David LaChapelle Solo Exhibition

Pieces from his latest photographic series “New World” will be displayed for the first time in Southeast Asia at SCAPEs: David LaChapelle Solo Exhibition, along with a carefully curated selection of works that’ll trace his entire 30-year career.
Meant to convey his critical observations of our society, you can expect many of LaChapelle’s work at the exhibition to be defiantly satirical, with bold colours and strong influences from both hyper-realism and surrealism.
